Trench warfare in World War I was a brutal and protracted style of combat characterized by a network of intricate trenches that stretched for miles along the Western Front. Soldiers on both sides endured horrendous conditions, living in squalor amid constant shelling and the threat of gas attacks. The warfare was marked by deadly stalemates, with each side launching occasional offensives to gain minimal ground at a high cost in human lives. Trenches were fortified with barbed wire, machine guns, and artillery, making it exceedingly difficult to break through enemy lines. This grueling form of warfare persisted for years, resulting in immense casualties and ultimately contributing to the protracted nature of the conflict.

Australian soldiers landed at what is now called ANZAC Cove on the Gallipoli Peninsula. For the vast majority of the 16,000 Australians and New Zealanders who landed on that day, it was their first experience of combat. By that evening, 2,000 of them had been killed or wounded. The landing by the Anzacs in the centre was meant to block any Turkish troops retreating from the south and reinforcements coming from the north. The plan was for the ANZAC and British troops to link up for a final push across to the Dardanelles. They were put ashore one mile (1.6 km) north of their intended landing beach. In the darkness, the assault formations became mixed up, but the troops gradually made their way inland, under increasing opposition from the Ottoman Turkish defenders. Happened on 25 April 1915. The role of the landing of the ANZAC cove was to capture the peninsula and help naval operations in the Dardanelles straits and relieve pressure on Russian forces who were fighting Turkish forces on the Caucasus front. The landing by the Anzacs in the centre was meant to block any Turkish troops retreating from the south and reinforcements coming from the north. The plan was for the Anzac and British troops to link up for a final push across to the Dardanelles. It was the first major action in which Australians were involved in WWI.

The Armistice was a peace treaty between Germany and the Allies on the Western Front that created a ceasefire while the terms of the permanent peace treaty were being discussed. It was signed on the 11th hour, 11th of November 1918, and happened due to Germany’s state of chaos and new leader of the republic seeking a truce. It stopped the immediate fighting in the Western Front, and eventually led to long term peace treaties. It was very significant, as it led to the end of World War

The Gallipoli Campaign was a Military operation to capture Gallipoli, peninsula, Turkey which launched in March 1915 with naval attack, then in April 1915 with the ground events, and ended in January 1916. It started with a naval attack through the Dardanelles, and then later a ground attack. It involved Britain, France, Australia, New Zealand, India, Canada, and Turkey. This happened because they wanted to have a sea route connecting the Mediterranean to the black sea to supply Russian troops to the eastern Front to relieve them of some stress.

which launched in March 1915 with naval attack, then in April 1915 with the ground events, and ended in January 1916.
The role of Australian women on the homefront- in 1918

Australian women played a crucial role during World War I, providing essential services such as nursing, fundraising, and packing care packages for soldiers. They worked in industries like munitions factories, shipyards, and agriculture, ensuring food security for both the Australian population and overseas troops. Women organized fundraising events and rallies to generate financial support for the war effort. They also managed households and raised children while their husbands or sons were away at war. These efforts began in 1914 and continued throughout the conflict, including 1918. Women's contributions helped alleviate the strain on Australia's resources and indirectly influenced the overall Australian war effort, contributing to the larger Allied war effort. Their resilience and determination during the war demonstrated their resilience and contributed to the women's suffrage movement and broader gender equality in Australia.

The state of affairs that emerged on the Western Front led to the invention of tanks during World War I. Although tanks with their core characteristics—armor, firepower, and all-terrain mobility—had been envisioned in the decade or so prior to the War, the commencement of its trench combat, with its frighteningly high deaths, spurred development.[1][2] Research was conducted in both France and Great Britain, with Germany following the Allies' lead much later.
