Tourism that involves animals are often on a VERY thin line between ethical and non ethical. For example: AQUARIUMS, ZOOS, riding elephants, Corida, bull riding, camel riding, water parks, rodeos, cat cafes, owl cafes, etc In all cases, the animals are used as a means of entertainment with no regard for their health or emotions. There is a debate that in some cases it is like a job for the animals but its not because they either end up dead, sick or STILL in captivity. Bull fighting is literally torture...literally.

People are in this type of tourism to kill themself, but therefor they need to go in a country where it is legal to do that and they might visit this country for the last time of there life.

I wanted to talk about the elephant reserves in Thailand. I don't find it very ethical to lock up elephants in order to please tourists. Some reserves have good conditions for elephants, they protect them. But others abuse them, they mistreat them in order to use them.

Something illegal in many countries but ethical. People have to travel abroad (like switzerland) to kill themself in a way to soothe his suffering.

For be an ethical tourism there are some littles rules and attention we can make for protect the respect of local population and environnment.

For example don't buy animal souvenirs, don't touch the naimals, avoid unethical wildlife tourism, don't touch coral.

We can prouve we come for learn and discover the cultur and not just for see and take pictures. For leave a more immersive experience we can start to learn some word about the country language like "hello", "thank you" or "bye". Make research before about the life style and some traditionnal rules we can pay attention for don't hurt local people too.

And for me the most important is to be sensitive of the experience.

Circus are worst for me than zoo.
Indeed, using animals to make a publlic laught and be paid. It is everything except ethical.
At least zoo are putting sick animals or rare one in cage to "save" them.
Circus don't care about how they feel.

The whole point of the attraction is about exploiting animals and making them do things that are unethical. Those animals belong in nature and not behind bars. It's the same for zoo.

To me it shows how tourists are thinking that their way of living is the best and should be everywhere, this can be compared as colonization. Prostitution is in most countries considered as unethical. However, some touristic destination are promoting sex tourism in order to attract more people because free sex and prostitution is a big part of their culture (eg Quartier Rouge in Amsterdam, Thailand, ...)

The wildlife smuggling:

In my opinion, wildlife smuggling is not ethical.
First of all, it is against the law, so that explain the first part of unethical.
Second of all, the fact of selling animal that were born in captivity but are normally free. some of them are separated from their mother very young and end up in bad condition in family that treat them badly but buy them for thousand of euros.
some time they end up dying because of their situation.
those animals are normally tropical animal like lions, tigers ... etc.
there are not meant to be pets.

The tourism made a lot of waste and have a lot of bad aspect but since years we see a new tourism more respectful and more ethical. The new generation is more sensitive to the ethic of they holidays and on the footprint. Unethical tourism in Asia often involves exploiting animals for entertainment and photo opportunities. This includes drugging animals for easier handling, confining them to small spaces, and forcing them to perform unnatural acts. For me we just can't take picture with lion or tigre is just a fact when we don't need to take picture with us is a savage animal not a cat or dog so drugs animals for picture for be less dangerous is stupid and tourist need to know this for stop go like in Thailand take picture with tiger but make safari and see us in their normal habitats.

Of course a Zoo is not ethical. But I think Safari can be sometimes. Depends on how you do it.
Even if the animals are in a zoo locked in a cage, in the wild life they are supposed to be free.
The way of doing the Safari can sometimes hurt the animals and disturb their environment.

I found non ethic in tourism the possibility to find air plane ticket at less than 50€. It is non ethic for the environnement, for the people who work in those company. They are not paid that much, less than the other. And for the environnement it is non ethic because people can flight very often at a low price. This is good for the people because they can flight and travel often without paying it expesive but I found this non ethic in my opinion.
