This level of fame that she achieved allowed her to break from the Supremes and record a lot of solo material, with her debut album featuring famous songs such as Ain’t No Mountain High Enough. In addition to Motown and the Supremes giving her a platform to  perform solo, her fame and music also has led to her becoming a gay icon within the LGBTQ+ community, with songs such as “I’m Coming Out” inspiring and empowering many in general, especially within the LGBTQ+ community, which was made possible by the platform and fame that her work with Motown helped her to achieve.
