In the MO compromise the south retains their ideas of slavery by protecting their representation in Congress.

Nationalism- fought war as a united front in the war of 1812 and the establishing of Supreme Court cases pointed to a growing federal or national power. Sectionalism- different points of view in different areas of the country caused by the different economies and different styles of life. Even though the federal government kept gaining power over the states and gaining more backing, there was still some pushback from states, this displayed the rise in nationalism and sectionalism.
