Recall two events associated with education

Reducing the risk for urinary tract infections reduces the need for antibiotics that are know cause other opportunistic infections such as yeast infections and C.Diff (Story, 2015). The concept of reducing infection dates back all the way to Florence Nightingale.

Indwelling catheters are safety hazards which increase the risk of injury due to falls. This concept is one of foundational cornerstones at SCOHS. "Safety is our Number 1 Priority here at Sentara."

These concepts have prepared us for leadership roles in practice.

A nurse is a patient advocate and should strive for patient safety. A nurse leads for healthcare change that is focused on the client first. Other healthcare professionals may focus attention on the disease processes first before patient care.

Use nursing evidence-based practice to provide care that is individualized to each patient's needs.
