He says he wants to be a "Catcher in the rye". He sets up an image where he has to save kids from falling off a cliff by catching them in a field of rye. One thing that this song does generally connect with, with this book, is how Holden wants to be special. For example Thomas Yorke, says countless times that he wants to be special and that this other person is special. I believe that this other person can be Phoebe.
