I also believed that there was no reason for their chirping, and I didn't care to find out what the reason for chirping was. Now, after experimenting with crickets, I know that only male crickets chirp, and that they do so to attract the attention of a female mate. But after learning more about them, and owning two of them, I like them better. I see their importance in the world, and our ecosystems. Also, I would tell people to give animals a chance, and it would be wrong of me to not give spiders a chance. The chance I took, was pretty worth it.

What never really crossed my mind was how sounds (human produced sounds) could affect them. The sounds produced by humans, weather intentional or not can greatly affect an insects world. Collecting data on insects and and how these sounds can be tricky. Should they be isolated outside of their natural habitat? Does isolating them affect their sound production? Have they gotten 'used' to the sounds we make? How do you measure their reactions? Are their reactions 'normal'? Lot's of variables involved that need to be thought about and taken into account.
