This movement was to inspire awareness about the heinous crimes committed by Joseph Kony. Joseph Kony is an African war criminal, who has committed many war crimes including forcing children of his village to serve in his own private militia called the LRA. The Kony2012 move was started with a video encouraging people to spread the hashtag of "#kony2012" . They wanted to spread the word about this man via twitter and facebook to get people to start an actual physical movement of spreading flyers and leaflets out around cities all over the U.S.. The movement didn't really advance from the internet stage.

This movement was interesting because it tried to incorporate both types of activism. The attempt was started via social media which was their mistake; the hashtag spread like wildfire, however nothing came of it. They had big plans for people to buy posters from "Invisible Children" and put them up all over towns and cities to raise awareness of the war crimes. Although nothing came from that, the boxes were bought but there was very little to show from it.

This article offered up many good ideas about traditional activism and social media activism. I think that after much reading, I agree with the article and traditional forms are better.

protest. The author intentionally juxtaposes these two ideas, usingsocial media to do things as opposed to not using social media, to contrast just how effective something can be without the use of social media websites. This use of juxtaposition further emphasizes the author's viewpoint on traditional activism
