Hi everyone, I'm Giulia and I'm from Italy. Here we celebrate Easter as a family. We dedicate 2 days to Easter: Easter and Easter Monday. Easter begins with a breakfast that is not a normal breakfast; you can eat hams, salami, eggs, sweets and even a typical dessert called "casatiello". After breakfast we exchange Easter eggs which are then broken to find the surprise. Then we prepare lunch and we stay together until the afternoon. On Easter Monday, instead, usually you are also with friends, you have a picnic, a barbecue and you play with the ball or cards or simply know it is together. I'm curious to know your traditions. A hug, see you soon

A typical Italian easter's dessert is Pastiera, my grandma always makes it and I use to eat it for breakfast, I love it!!! There is another typical dessert that my grandma cooks for Easter: they are big biscuits shaped like dolls and on their belly there is a boiled egg. I have lunch with my parents and my grandparents and after we play games together. On Easter Monday I always go for a Pic nic with my cousins, aunts and uncles, we have a lot of fun

Hi, I'm Silvia and I'm from Rome, today I'll like to talk to you about some of the most known Italian Easter traditions. There are a lot of them, but I think one of the most important ones is the habit of giving, children and adults alike, cholate eggs. There are a lots of tips of chocolate eggs, but my favourite are handmade chocolate eggs, I've actually never eaten one, but they are gorgeous and are usually made with a higher quality chocolate, so I think they are pretty delicious too. Here is an example 😊

Chrysa Soumma
Hello my name is Chrysa andII am from Greece. In a few days, every corner of Greece will celebrate Easter, the biggest holiday of Orthodoxy,in their own unique way.The red eggs, the buns, the epitaph, the candles with the holy light, the barrels that greet the resurrection are some of the most famous customs of our Easter. Our popular customs include the dinner after the resurrection with the main food the cook, the crackling of red eggs the kiss of love and the skewering of the lamp on Easter Sunday. The Easter manners and customs of the homeland are endless. In sereval areas of Greece, such as Corfu on Holy Saturday after the first resurrection, residents throw huge jugs full of water from their balconies,a spectable that always causes excitement in the crowd. The beautiful island of Apocalypse,as it is called because there John wrote the Apocalypse gathers a lot of people on Easter days, because is faithfully follows all our traditions! One of the most beautiful customs is that of Holy Thursday, where the perfomanse takes place of the Last Supper where monks or clergy are impersonated and on Easter Sunday the 2nd resurrection takes place where the resurrection gospel is read in seven languages and red eggs are shared. The rocket war in Chios is also known (it has its roots in the era of Ottomanrule). In Kythnos,a swing is set up in the square of the island,in which boys and girls are rocked dressed in traditional costumes. The Greeks, wherever they are,far from Greece, will celebrate Easter with faith, devotion, joy and hope.

Hello I am Romina Balili and I am from Albania but I live in Greece. The Greece traditions are that we paint eggs on Maundy Thursday also bake buns with eggs indide. Good Friday is a day of holidays and fasting, a day of mourning, many people drink vinegar for the love of Christ. Near noon the girls decorate the epitaph with flowers they have sent from their home. The spring flowers they put on the epitaph are : roses, wreaths, violets. They make wreaths and garlands while chanting Panagia's mourning. The Morning-morning all over Greece the women started kneading. Knead the buns of Lambri and decorate them with strips of dough and nuts. Depending on the shape they were given in the past, they also had different names. 'Baskets' , 'baskets' , 'bows' , 'eggs' , 'buns'. Some believe that eggs are painted red in remembrace of the blood of Christ. But red is the colour of joy. Joy for the Resurrection of Christ. In many parts of Greece they hung red blankets and red handkerchiefs or hung red handkerchiefs from their windows. The colours for the eggs were made from various plants. The first egg they painted was that of the Virgin Mary and they put it in the iconastasis. With this the children were cruicified from evil eye. The fast lasted for forty days before Easter. Christ fasted so much in the desert. For the first three days some women did not put anything in their mouths. 'Lady Lent' was their diary. She was portrayed as a nun. They took a piece of paper and draw a woman, they did not put anything in her mouth because she was constantly fasting and her arms were crossed because she was praying all the time. She had 7 legs during the 7 weeks of Lent. Every Saturday they cut off one leg. The last one was cut on Holy Saturday. On 'Lazarus Sabbath' , the Saturday before Holy Week, the people celebrate the 'Rise' of the friend of Christ. In many parts of our country to depick the Resurrection of Lazarus, to symbolize the Victory of Christ over death, but also to denote the resurrection of nature, they made of Lazarus. On the eve of the feast of 'the first Brilliant' , the children, holding the 'Lazarus' , made their vows housewife. In Epirus e.g. they also rang bells. In Central Greece, Macedonia and the Thrace only girls sing. This custom is found all over Greece in viriation. On Palm Sunday, in of the triumphal entry of Christ into Jerusalem, all the temples are decorated with twigs, palm trees or other victorious plants, e.g. laurel, wilow myrtel and olive. After the service they distrbuted to the faithful. Our church established this custom from him 9th century. At dawn on Holy Saturday the churches are decorated with laurel leaves and pries scatters them as soon as he says 'God raises the earth'. After the church, the housewife kneads the bun of Lambri and the man undertakes the slaughter of the lamp. On night of Holy Saturday, shortly before the church bells rings, the faithful put on their brand new clothes, take their white candles to light them with the Holy Light and go to watch the Resurrection service. Turning from the Resurrection, they cross the upper part of the front door with the Holy Light. At noon on Easter Sunday, the Second Resurrection 'Love' takes place. Christ was cruicified for love, which is why the Gospel is read in twelve languages, symbolize the unify of nations. After the Love, in the courtyard of the temple, a dance is set up, with the pope first and then the faithful in order of age
RED EGGS: They symbolize with their red colour the blood of Christ
LAMB: Symbolizes the faithful from the parable of Christ with the shepherd
THE CROSS: Symbolizes the light the Cross on which Christ testfied
THE CANNDLE:Symbolizes the light that Christ brought by defeating death and consequently darkness by his Resurrection
FIREWORKS:With the noises and light they make it is said to drive away evil spirits.

Hi everyone! My name is Sara and I'm here to tell you some of my Easter traditions. On Easter Day I usually spend a lot of time whit my relatives. When I wake up I have a special breakfast whit my parents: we usually eat sweet food at breakfast but at Easter we eat salt food. In the morning we meet all our relatives so we can talk to each other about the "news". We have a large and delicious lunch togheter (it's my favorite part!) Our lunch is usually long and after that we stay togheter for some hours. So in the evening everyone comes back home and we are tired but happy. For dinner my parents and I eat just fruit because we are still full from lunch time. I don't know how I'm going to spend it this year because of COVID but I know my parents will make me spend a beautiful day.
Hope you all will spend a good Easter!

Then we have the famous folar that in the north is salty where you can also call bolas to the south is sweet and can have several forms.

Regarding the processions I will start in Braga in the north of the country, the so-called Donkey Procession in portuguese Procissão da Burrinha where the image of Nossa Senhora is transported by a donkey through the streets.

I’m going now to the center of Portugal more specifically Maçãs de Dona Maria in Alvaiazere. Where the Paschal visit takes place where people make paths with flowers from the road to their homes where the Priest will bless them.

Ending now in the South I will speak of the Procession of the Flowers that takes place in the Algarve where on Easter Sunday is marked by the Procession of Hallelujah, in honor of the resurrection of Christ. The men (and boys) make two parallel rows on the sides of the carpet decorated in the center of the street, and carry colorful flower torches in their hands.

And that’s it good Easter for everyone bye.
