A few years ago, when I was in my first year of Senior High School, there was a time where I was in class and the professor said that we will be having a small activity after discussing today's topic in Philosophy 101.

In that activity, it was simple but definitely in need of logic to answer. She will be giving some statements and we will be using our common sense to get the right answer for the item. Long story short, after a couple of minutes, it was checking time and she's writing the answers to the corresponding item on the whiteboard as we checked our papers. She said that whatever she writes is the correct answer but then there is this item that I have the correct answer in what she wrote but just different linking verbs.

Thinking that it is such a pity losing some points for just a linking verb difference, I raised my hand and kindly asked if I could consider what I used instead of what verb she wrote. She also kindly said no and explained that hers is the right one. But in analyzing the structure of the sentence, mine is the grammatically correct one so again, I kindly told her and defended my answer hoping to persuade her.

I am not really persuasive or aggressive in stating my thoughts and it was kind of embarrassing since it was in the presence of the whole class but at that moment, I knew that I was right and it really is just a pity losing some points.

After I kindly explained, she actually tried to analyze it too and also went outside the classroom to get a second opinion from another professor. I actually thought that it would be all just in vain but when she returned, she smiled at me and told the whole class that mine was right and changed the linking verb in the item on the whiteboard. It is not much but I was really happy and grateful (saying thank you to her a couple of times) for her that we saw it through and made her see it how I saw it. It was scary since it might cause a conflict in our student-teacher relation, but we're still okay after that and I learned that with the right tone and choice of words, we can persuade people to understand.

A couple months ago, in the 3rd Quarter of the school year 2020-2021, I was one of the four members of a group in our Capstone Project 1. Long story short, when the final defense was coming up in a couple of weeks and I was proof-reading and checking both the paper and the initial output, I noticed that there are still parts where we were lacking and there are also parts that might cause a loophole where the panelists might possibly notice.

Given this opportunity to be a member of this group and being responsible for the paper itself, I took initiative to do it myself rather than waiting for someone else to fix it as soon as possible as I understood that there are loopholes that can possibly be roasted in the defense itself.

As I write ideas and construct supporting sentences, I also opened it up to my group mates since this is their paper too and they have the right to know: I explained and we see to it eye-to-eye where we come up with a better and loopless project as possible where I took the lead in suggesting and then assigning the task equally to my fellow group mates in rewriting and revising some parts of the paper.

As a result, our final defense went smoothly and there were no revisions needed. I am not taking all the credit for the outcome because everyone did their part but I am happy that I took initiative to work on the paper and the fruit of our labor is really satisfactory.
