I must admit, when I first received the book, I had major trouble understanding the vocabulary and following the sentence structure. The book was definitely a difficult read, and 11-year old me quit after a couple days. I would come back to this book year after year until I had eventually finished it by the age of 14. The logical pathways that each story followed and the deductive reasoning employed by Holmes challenged me, the reader, to change the way I think in order to solve the problem with him.
