The Rite of Spring was Igor Stravinsky's third ballet that he wrote for the Russian Ballets in Paris and unlike most of what was popular for the time, the performance featured ritualistic and sacrificial elements.

Stravinsky developed the anti-Romantic, dissonant, and shocking musical style in this performance that caused a riot in the audience.

"Dance of the Adolescent Girls" featured the strings using double stops and downbows on every chord which reiterated a sonority that included all seven notes of the Ab harmonic minor scale

Dissonance was intense and the music had no feeling of resolution

The horn keeps an ostinato over the chords while other layers of instruments are added. The main style that is common throughout the piece is pounding chords that sound like a chant or a ritual which is what Stravinsky was aiming for.

Stravinsky composed a three-movement piece that included Latin psalms with orchestra and choir. 

Even in this piece, Stravinsky's famous frequent meter changes, unpredictable rhythm, and emphasized elemental pulsation were displayed in the beginning.

This piece is less dissonant that The Rite of Spring, but there is an eerie feeling that the music gives.
