He decided to write a play about the Salem witch trials because he was experiencing a modern version of it. During these times the U.S government was going crazy trying to find communists and accusing random people. Hollywood was the epicenter for people being accused and some of the people were Miller's friends. They questioned him and he pled the fifth which made him look suspicious. She was a slave/servant for the reverent of the town. She would babysit his kids while he was working and because she was from the area of Morrongo and other countries around there, she knew how to do some voodoo things and showed the children. If you confessed you just went to jail for being a witch but if you didn't you would die. Giles found the loophole of not saying anything so nothing would happen. Since he decided to do this they wanted to crush the confession out of him. The question is were they right? It's very possible that the people that believed this were right. Obviously we can't have any proof but from the stories passed down, all signs lead to yes rather than no.
