Learning about a topic during synchronous learning, and then completing check points in Pear Deck can help ensure that all students are grasping the new ideas. By completing some of the stages of the PBL in class, as a class, will start the students off on the right foot to complete the rest of the tasks now that they can an idea of how they work. Teachers can allow some students to work at a self-guided pace and pull a small group to complete the presentation together if they require more support. Pear Deck encourages students to participate in synchronous learning by having the presentation interaction. They are not just listening to a lecture but answer questions, watching videos, taking note, etc. Pear Deck can create a solid foundation for a new topic which would then allow students to be creative with their project because they fully understand the topic.

Project- based unit idea: Pear Deck can function as format for the synchronous learning needed for students to create their own product for a PBL. By conducting whole group learning with Pear Deck, students are interacting with new information that they will need to use to problem-solve. After building a strong foundation of knowledge, students will be able to be creative.

ISTE Standard: Using technology tools during whole group, or synchronous learning time, students will begin to learn the expected online behaviors and how to use technology appropriately in class. The ISTE Standard 1.2.b Online Behaviors is being taught through the use of Pear Deck (International Society for Technology in Education, 2023) . Students will practice focusing on a topic and using their technology for academic growth.

It serves as a gradebook, virtual meeting spot, and feedback central.

Project-based learning connections/ differentiation: Since Google Classroom is very customizable, teachers an assign lessons and tasks in various forms: Google docs, learning software, self-guided work, group projects, and both synchronous and asynchronous learning. If a teachers want their class to complete a PBL task, they can assign per-class work where the students learn about a project asynchronously, then join a Google Meet to work synchronously. Students can submit links to projects they have completed when turning in their work so they are not limited to how they can demonstrate their knowledge. Since teachers can assign work to individual students or groups, they are able to differentiate the assignments and how they assignments are complete/ what the requirements are. Teachers can include audio clips for directions or provide additional resources if a student needs. Google Classroom also has a Google Meet link. This can help students stay encouraged and connected to their learning if they have scheduled times they can log in to meet with their teacher and ask questions.

Project-based unit idea: In any subject, teachers can assign students specific tasks of their PBL assignment. Teachers can record directions/ tips and students can record their answers/ explanations etc.

Project-based learning connections/ differentiation: While completing PBL asynchronously, students may be required to describe their project. Some students may struggle with writing and be more successful giving a speech, through recording their voice, to dictate their ideas. This allows all students to share all the information and details they want regardless of their writing level. As for the teacher, they can give students the necessary support while they are working independently. Students will be able to access directions and resources at any point with voice recorders or audio clips inserted into a presentation or document.

Project- based unit: In a science unit on engineering, for example, students can create their machine or invention to solve a specific problem. If students are in-person, they can record an explanation of their machine and leave the recorder by the model or picture. Then the class can take a gallery walk and listen to each recording. If the students are in a virtual setting, students can insert audio clips to their presentation for other students to listen too.

ISTE Standards: Voice recorders and audio clips help students meet the ISTE Standard 1.6.d Customize the Message because they are able to share exactly what they want about a project (International Society for Technology in Education, 2023).

By following specific creators and commenting/ messaging on posts, students can learn valuable information.

Project-based learning connections/ differentiation: PBL requires students to research topics and learn up to date information. Many reliable sources use social media to teach people about animals, science, technology, humanities, etc. Any project students are working on, there is an expert putting out credible information. Social media can help inspire all different students. Using social media opens up doors for all students to find something they are interested in. While students might explore these platforms independently at home, they will be most effective during synchronous instruction. By having the teacher in control of what is seen and commented on videos, students will be kept safe from strangers and inappropriate content.

Project-based unit idea: When learning about other cultures in social studies, teachers can help facilitate a pen-pal program. Students are able to see other countries and get a better idea of what the world has to offer.

Project-based learning connections/ differentiation: By using Google Earth, teachers can immerse students in a completely different culture, show landscapes, and support student understandings. PBL tasks require students to create a solution to a real-world problem. If a student does not comprehend where something is, or how far away something is, it might be difficult for them to move forward with solving a problem. Google Earth can "put" students in a new location right away. Teh updated pictures make sure that students are getting an accurate picture of a new place. This tool can inspire students to learn more about the world around them. Students can make their presentation look however they like, include clipart art, text, pictures, videos, songs, and more when creating their project. This tool assists teacher in differentiation by changing fonts (larger, different styles, colors) to accommodate students with vision impairments. Teachers can also insert audio and video clips to support student understanding. Teachers and students (or students and students) can work on the slides together if someone needs more support. Google Slides can be completed both synchronously and asynchronously. Since the tool is very flexible, it can be used for almost anything.

Project-based unit idea: During an ELA unit on the environment, students could be tasked with creating a presentation on how to provide clean water to people in countries of need. Students can take pictures of their work and turn their slides how into a video or create a brand-new video. There can be texts included and animations as well. Through using Animoto, students will learn how to curate their knowledge and creatively present their work. Since students have different options when working with Animoto, they are able to use the features that they find most useful or most comfortable. This tool can be used in both synchronous and asynchronous learning environments. Teachers might need to provide a lot of support when first introducing it. Working synchronously will give students quick feedback and problem-solving from their teacher.
