The Epidemiology of Obesity

Obesity is a complex, multifactorial, and largely preventable disease, affecting, along with overweight, over a third of the world’s population today. If secular trends continue, by 2030 an estimated 38% of the world’s adult population will be overweight and another 20% will be obese. In the USA, the most dire projections based on earlier secular trends point to over 85% of adults being overweight or obese by 2030. While growth trends in overall obesity in most developed countries seem to have leveled off, morbid obesity in many of these countries continues to climb, including among children. In addition, obesity prevalence in developing countries continues to trend upwards toward danger levels.

Obesity is typically defined quite simply as excess body weight for height, but this simple definition belies an etiologically complex phenotype primarily associated with excess adiposity, or body fatness, that can manifest metabolically and not just in terms of body size. Obesity greatly increases risk of chronic disease morbidity—namely disability, depression, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, certain cancers—and mortality. Childhood obesity results in the same conditions, with premature onset, or with greater likelihood in adulthood. Then, the economic costs of obesity very high and expensive.

In this Short Video, we outline the prevalence and trends of obesity, then review the myriad risk factors to which a preventive eye must be turned, and finally present the costs of obesity in terms of its morbidity, mortality, and economic burden.

Honestly, the things that can make you happy can be different,Like me, I am happy when I meet my friends, because we always enjoy ourselves and thus relax from the burden of everyday life. The moments when I am with my family and my relatives give me also pleasure. The fact that they are good and healthy makes me happy.
I also enjoy myself listening to the favourite music and even sometimes playing the favourite computer game. It gives me personal satisfaction when I am doing well at school because that makes me think I am a capable person. Sometimes, even the fact that I come home after a tiresome day at school and see my parents makes me feel happy. A lot of things can give a person the sense of happiness, even the simple things you do.
Then, I will be happy when I can eat delicious because my hobby is eating and if I do not eat all day I will feel very hot tempered, So To prevent that from happening I will always look for food and eat all the time, it is also able to relieve my stress all day
To sum up, happiness is a wonderful feeling that can be expressed in different ways. Everyone strives to be happy because in this way you feel capable, strong and believe in the sense of life.

My Favourite Teacher

Watching Mr Lim get into his car is educational; and watching him get out of it is even more so. Mr Lim, the teacher of Secondary 1, weighs more than a 100 kg and his car is an old mini.

At first sight one would think that it would be impossible for him to get in; but he does so with amazing agility and grace. No sooner does he get out of the car when we see a flock of school children running to greet him as if he were a film star. He will then make his entry into his classroom like a VIP on a visit.

As he walks he answers the various questions thrown at him from his young companions. Most of them are students from his present class, but some are his old students. They just happened to be around when Mr Lim arrived and they could not resist running to him.

Mr Lim is the oldest teacher in the school and has been teaching there since its founding in 1955. He has been teaching Secondary 1 for all these years and has taught thousands of students. Among the students he has taught are several top civil servants, two army generals, two cabinet ministers and our school principal. In spite of all his achievements, what makes Mr Lim my favourite teacher, and the favourite teacher to many others too, is the fact that he really cares. He cares about all of us equally. He does more than just teach us.

He knows all his students and ex-students by name and delves into all our personal lives. He can tell with a look that we are unhappy about something. He will then take us aside and talk. He will get to the root of the problem, even seeing the principal or our parents if need be. He will not stop until the problem, whatever it is, is solved and he does it in all sincerity without expecting anything in return. Is there any wonder then that we all love him.
