The Grasslands are home to animals such as zebras, gazelles, wildebeests, lions, cheetahs, leopards and flightless birds like emu and ostriches live throughout grasslands. In the Eurasian Steppe there are vultures and saiga antelope, In North America, deer, antelope, rabbits and priarie dogs roam the grassland. As well as buffalo which is usually called bison.

Lots of different kinds of grasses grow in the habitat. Wild oats, foxtail, purple coneflowers, buffalo grass, goldenrod, and sunflowers are just a few of the types of grasses that grow and flower on grasslands.

The Grasslands soil type is typically Mollisols. Mollisols is a thick, dark organic and nutrient rich soil. This soil type has a dark colored surface horizon relatively high in content of organic matter. The soils are base rich throughout and therefore quite fertile.
