Field Experience Contract:
Due to Hurricane Florence, students received 10 days of instruction and were then out of school for 6 weeks. To date, I have been able to visit the classroom one time. I plan to visit the classroom on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 AM - 3 PM each week. With the exception of the week of Thanksgiving. This week I will be in the classroom on Monday from 8 AM - 3 PM. I will be completing my field experience requirements in an elementary school that is located in a small town. I have been placed in a 2nd grade classroom. There are 22 students in this class; 10 males and 12 females. There are 2 students with IEP's; one boy and one girl. The male student is ELL and speech/hearing. The female student is speech/hearing. The teacher will be using the N.C. Essential Standards to plan her S.S. lessons. The school has a A-H specials rotation. On D-H days, the teacher spends 30 minutes on S.S. instruction. The teacher has been unable to complete assessments that would determine ability/group placements. There is not a S.S. text book for 2nd grade. Instead, the teacher will use the electronic whiteboard, book sets, classroom library books and other professional resources to teach the curriculum.
