For example, George and Lennie, the two main  characters, dream of owning their own farm and living off the land. however, their dream is repeated thwarted by harsh  realities of their lives, such as poverty and lack of social capital. In one scene, George tells Lennie that "Guys like, us that work on ranches, are the loneliest guys in the world. They don't belong no place...with us it ain't like that. we got a future. we got somebody to talk to that gives a damn about us." This quote suggests that George and Lennie's dream of owning a farm is not just about material wealth. but also about finding a sense of f belonging and purpose in their lives.
