They get lots of hot sunlight and very little rain. Most organisms, including plants and animals, have adapted with many ways to conserve resources (water+food). Many animals are adapted to hide from the hot daylight. Desert Organisms also have many adaptations to protect their bodies from the heat and sand.

The temperature can be warm or cool and it often rains in these ecosystems. Most animals have adapted with camouflage to look like the plants around them or are very skilled climbers. Most plants compete for space therefore they have adaptations to spread their seeds far or take up the most sunlight.

With such high elevation (far off the ground) the air is thin (very low pressure) on these mountains making it a very tough environment to live in. Many animals have special foot adaptations to make them good at climbing the steep cliffs. Other adaptations that help with survival include thick furs to keep warm and strong lungs to breathe well.  Many organisms use caves as shelters.

There is some marshy land surrounded by water and trees with long roots to stay in place. Organisms here must be able to move and live among the water and mud. Plants must be very strong here and wetlands are home to many kinds of birds, insects, and large reptiles.
