Step 1: Fold a Fish Tail

1. Fold the paper in half diagonally, then unfold.

2. Bring two corners to the center crease (kite shape).

3. Fold the tip down to create a tail shape.

4. This will be the bottom tail of the Merlion.

Step 2: Form the Lion Head

1. On a separate top portion, fold the paper to create a boxy head.

2. Add folds for the mane—accordion folds work well for a "hair" look.

3. You can draw on facial features: eyes, nose, etc.

Step 3: Connect the Two

1. Fold the upper part onto the tail you created earlier.

2. Use small creases to make it curve like a real Merlion statue (upright).

Step 4: Decorate

• Use your pen to draw scales on the body.

• Draw the eyes, mouth, and the flowing mane.

• Add water splashes or waves below if you like!

  Option 2: 3D Paper Merlion Head (Papercraft Style)

If you're okay with some cutting and pasting:

Step-by-step:

1. Search for “Merlion Papercraft Template” online (printable models exist).

2. Cut out the shape.

3. Fold along the dotted lines.

4. Glue edges to form a 3D model of the Merlion's head and tail.

5. Color with blue and silver tones.

How to play: Provide coloring books/materials and colored pencils or markers, play soft music and let the elderly color at their own pace.

Activity 2: Bingo

How to play: Use printed bingo cards and chips. Call out numbers. First one to get all 5 wins. Offer small prizes to them.

Duration: 30-45 minutes

Activity 3: Jigsaw puzzle

How to play: Choose large-piece puzzles. Set them up on a table that is big enough to set up. The elderly will work together as a team and complete the puzzle.

Duration: 30-90 minutes

Activity 4: Story circle

How to play: Each elderly will share a short story or memory based on a prompt; their childhood (toys), first job, living condition in their past life

1: Distribute Materials

Give each participant:

• 1 sheet of white A4 paper (or cardstock)

• 1 red strip (or red marker)

• Crescent moon and 5 stars (stickers or pre-cut)

• 1 paper straw or craft stick

• Glue or double-sided tape

2: Fold the Flag

Fold the A4 paper in half horizontally to make a rectangle.

3: Add the Red Top

Paste or colour the top half red (this represents the red section of the flag).

4: Add Crescent & Stars

Stick or draw:

• 1 white crescent moon

• 5 white stars in a circle beside the crescent

5: Attach to Stick

Use glue or tape to attach one side of the flag to the straw or stick — like a hand-held flag

Create bingo cards with nostalgic Singapore landmarks/objects. Then call out descriptions or play clips of the place/object.
