Body Language: Creating Bonds

This video focuses on using the proper body language to help teachers create bonds and build relationships with their students. In the video, the teacher is pacing back and forth at the front of the classroom and up and down the rows as well. By doing this, he can make sure that every student is focused and engaged on him and the lesson. Also by walking around the room, using hand gestures and changing facial expressions, the teacher is showing his students that he is comfortable with not only them, but himself as well. I included this video because I wanted to learn the importance of a teachers body language when it comes to keeping students engaged. What I learned from this video is, by taking command of the lesson at the beginning of the lesson through proper body language such as walking around the classroom, mingling within the rows, inviting contributions, and reinforcing the value of the contributions that are made are all important strategies teachers can use to help keep their students focused and engaged during lessons.

This video focuses on the importance of teachers body language when it comes to holding students attention during a lesson. I included this video because I thought it was very interesting how certain movements keep students engaged and helps conduct their learning. From this video I learned that I need to be more aware and more intentional with my body language. I also learned some new hand gestures and body movements that would be useful in every classroom. These include holding my hand out as when I get the response I was looking for to help reinforce that's the correct response or the specific idea I was looking for.

Additional Resource: Positive Reinforcement for Participation

This video focuses on using positive reinforcements for participation in a high school classroom. In the video, Mrs. Hall used 10 seconds to review expectations with the students. She calls for everybody attention eyes on her pencil down. She gives recognition for the positive contribution they make in the class with stickers or cards with positive messages. She said that students looking her way 5 seconds make good working relationships. I definitely would try her approach in my classroom with my students and I included this video because if positive reinforcements work this well in a high school classroom, then they should definitely work in upper elementary classrooms as well. learned from this video that positive reinforcement is a powerful tool when it comes to classroom management and participation. No matter how small the accomplishment, always praise the achievement.

I included this article because I enjoyed reading this article. I thought that it was very helpful for tips on classroom management and I especially liked reading about making positive phone calls home and sending letters. I think that makes a huge impact on a student when a parent receives a positive phone call or letter about their child. From this article I learned a few new classroom management strategies like, keep your consequences as minimal as possible to see if that works first and never punish an entire class.

I really enjoyed reading this article and I included it because it provided really good information for teachers on how to build a relationship with students especially difficult students to help build and improve classroom management. One thing I learned from this article is when a teacher is self-aware of their vulnerabilities, such as the need for power, they are more likely to respond strategically to the student and the situation rather than emotionally.
