Morgan was a smart student by the time he attended high school  in Boston. In 1857, Morgan moved to New York to work at the American branch of his father's law firm. He continued to work at his father's law firm as he founded J. Pierpont Morgan & Co in the early 1860's. In 1864,  Morgan and Charles Dabney partnered to form the company Dabney, Morgan & Co. In 1879, William Vanderbilt asked Morgan about purchasing stocks on the New York Central Railroad.  He sold $40 million in bonds to pay for the Northern Pacific Railroad. J.P Morgan's finance of the Northern Pacific Railroad was the largest transaction of railroad bonds in American history. His company soon began financing the creation of Federal Steel in 1898. Then in 1901, Morgan combined his newly purchased steel company and his Federal Steel company to create U.S. Steel. He was a trustee and board member at the American Museum of Natural History for 44 years. Morgan had a great interest for the Episcopal church.
