I enjoyed this book from start to finish because no matter what obstacle Louie faced, from running from the police, to training to fight in WWII, to surviving a crash landing in the ocean and the wrath of The Bird, he persevered.

To me, unbroken means ...

.... and Louie lives up to this definition because ...

"When the bird lunged for Louie, Louie imagined strangling him, and his hands drew into fists. He saw the corporal looking furiously at his hands, but refused to unclench them. The Bird demanded that Louie look him in the eyes; Louie wouldn't do it. The Bird tried to knock Louie down; Louie wouldn't fall. Other prisoners told him to give in or the Bird would bear him to death. Louie couldn't do it. When he raised hie eyes, all that shone in them was hate. A battle of wills had begun (pg 181).

This part really hits home with me. Gratefully, I have never endured the physical abuse that Louie has. But, I have endured significant emotional pain. And I can relate to his fierce tenacity. I know that anger - and know the power of channeling that anger to survive and to overcome.

Louie Zamperini - Leader of the survivors.

While I was captivated by the entire book, part 3 really stood out to me because it showed a lot of conflict and how Louie helped not just himself, but also Phil and Mac throughout all the went through.

To me, unbroken means something that frequently undergoes harm but never breaks. No matter how much pressure or pain it is put under.

Louie lives up to this definition because he went through fear, thirst, starvation, and even denial. Whats worse is that he didn't just have to help himself but also Phil and Mac but he was strong and endured through everything.

"Louie established rules. Each man would eat one square of chocolate in the the morning , one in the evening. Louie allotted one water tin per man, with each man allowed to two or three sips a day. Eating and drinking at this rate, they could stretch the supplies for a few days"

Louie Zampereini- clever survivor
the whole book was a hit, but part 3 was the best part of the book. the whole part showed no matter what you throw in front him he will find a way to make it out alive.

the term unbroken to me means being able to withstand any kind of obstacle
or set backs and still make it out alive.

"The second albatross fluttered onto Louie's head around the fourteenth day. Again Louie caught and killed it. When Louie opened it, they were relieved to find it did-int smell bad. They ate all of it . Because mac was fading fastest, they gave him all the blood."

I like this part the best because, it showed Louie's ability to be a leader and a team player. he was the one catching the food, and when he saw mac was not doing so good he sacrifices and gives him all the blood. just all in shows what a truly unbreakable person Louie is. Even on a raft with two other people.

He beat POW's every day, fracturing their wind-pipes, rupturing their eardrums, shattering their teeth, tearing one man's ear half off, tying another to a tree for days. In the ecstasy of an assault, he wailed, drooling and frothing, sometimes sobbing. in the words of one POW, he was "the most vicious guard in any prison camp on the main island of Japan (pg 174).

This part really catches my attention because I could not imagine having to deal with any of the things listed above that Louie or the other POW's had to deal with.

Louie Zamperini- Its just a prank bro!
I loved the first part of this Novel and also Louie's life. The author really portrays the childish side of Louie and the sneaky mischievous things he did while growing up.
Unbroken... what does this mean? It is the title of the book, so it should be understood. Unbroken mean to never break and never back down, stay strong and do not let your foe beat you.
My favorite passage from part 1 is "If it was edible, Louie stole it. Housewives who stepped from their kitchens returned to find their suppers gone. Residents looking out their windows saw a long legged boy dashing by, a stolen cake balanced on his hands. He broke into his neighbors' house, bribed their Great Dane with a bone, and cleaned out their icebox. He picked the lock at the town bakery, snatched pies ate until he was full, used the rest as ammunition for ambushes."pg(8) This is my favorite quote because it really portrays Louie's sneaky behavior when he was a child and how much of a hassle he was for his neighbors.

Louie Zamperini- The Steel Beam

I really enjoyed this book because it shows what we can achieve if we do not give up and keep persevering .

Unbroken to me means being pushed to your lowest lows or hurt to where you feel you cant be hurt anymore and being able to rise above it and come to understand that we can push through anything as long as we have the determination to do so
my favorite passage in the book is when Louie is tasked to hold the steel beam above his head ordered by the bird in order to break him and make him out to be weak which turned out not to be the case when Louie was able to hold the beam over his head remaining unbroken, but broke the Bird.

Louis Zamperini- Devilishly Childish
Part 1 is one of my favorite parts of the book because it helps give context to Louis's personality and explains his later actions as an adult. As a child, however, Louis was the scourge of Torrance. "Thrilled by the crashing of boundaries, Louis was untamable. In Torrance, a rebel was born."
Some of his most defiant deeds included deflating a teacher's car tires after punishing him for spit-balling and causing a record setting small explosion while in the Boy Scouts. His mother was unhappy with his actions and always questioned why he couldn't be like Pete; it was something he grew tired of hearing as quickly as became intolerant to the prejudice towards Italians in Torrance. Despite being put down by the people of Torrance, and some times his mother, Louis would not give in to the critics and antagonists that surrounded him; That is what it means to be unbroken.
One of my favorite passages is when the author speaks of his durability as a child. "He was a marked boy. Bullies pummeled him with rocks, taunted him, punched him, and kicked him. He could have run away, but he refused to bend." Nothing could beat him down; not the kids, not their insults, not the hate he received from all of Torrance. Louis would go on to prove himself as one of the greatest underdogs in history.

Louie Zamperini-master of mischief
the part i liked about the book was all of Louie's pranks and humor especially when he replaced his gum with laxative gum since Phil and Cuppernell were stealing his gum and they ate too many pieces and used all the poop bags and had to hang out the plane and ended up covering the plane in poop in way that Louie said looked like "it was an abstract painting." because even tho its gross its pretty funny.
to me unbroken means that you just push through all the crappy stuff life throws at you and come out stronger and more resilient to anything life has in store for you.
"Louie's two most notorious pranks involved Phil, chewing gum, and their new copilot, a massive ex-football player named Charleton Cuppernell, who replaced Moznette when the later joined another crew. In the first incident, after Cuppernell and Phil swiped his beer, Louie retaliated by jamming gum into the cockpit urine relief tube. on the next flight the call of nature was followed by an inexplicably brimming urine tube, turbulence, and at least one wet airman." i like this part of the story because it's funny and i enjoy pranks myself.
