         <title>Meeting of the Estates General 1789</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The meeting of the Estates General had the meeting- the first in 175 years. The meeting was an assembly of representatives from all three Estates. They held the meeting to get approval for the tax reform. This means that the first and second Estates will have to pay taxes.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Emmanuel-Josph Sieye`s a spoke person for their viewpoint was a clergyman sympathetic to their causes. In his speech he suggested that the Third Estate delegates name themselves the National Assembly and pass laws and reforms in the name of the French people. The Third Estate agreed to his idea by an overwhelming majority. On June 17, 1789 they voted to establish the National Assembly.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Three days later the Third Estate found them locked out of their meeting room. They broke into a indoor tennis court and pleading to stay until they draw up a new constitution. On June 1789, this pledge became known as the Tennis Court Oath. Nobles and members of the clergy who favored reformed joined the Third Estate.          <title>July 14, 1789 Fall of the Bastille</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Rumors were going around in Pairs saying that foreign troops were coming to Pairs to massacre French Citizens. They began to gather weapons in order to defend the city. On July 14, 1789 a mob went searching for gunpowder and arms stormed Bastille, a Paris prison. The mob overwhelmed the guards and seized control of the building. They hacked the prison commander and several guards to death.          <title>October 1789 Women&#39;s March</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In October 1789, the women rioted over the rising price of bread. The women were brandishing weapons and marched on Versailles. They demanded that the National Assembly to take action and to provide bread. When that didn't work they broke into the palace and killing some guards.          <title>June 1791, Royal family tries to escape France </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>King Louis and his family tried to escape France because he was afraid that he would loose his power. Some of his advisers warned him that him and his family were in danger. On June 1791, the Royal family tries to escape from France to Austrian Netherlands. As they reached the boarder they were approached by a mob and brought back to Pairs.          <title>Constitution of 1791</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In September 1791, the National Assembly completed the new constitution. The new constitution stripped the king of his authority. It created the Legislative Assembly, which had the power to create laws and to approve or reject declarations of war.          <description><![CDATA[<div>On April 1792, The Legislative Assembly responded by declaring war. The war began badly for the French. By the summer of 1792 Prussian forces were advancing on Pairs. The commander of Prussian threatened to destroy Pairs if any one harmed the Role family.          <title>Execution of King Louis XVI January 21, 1793</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The National Convention had reduced Louis XVI's role from a king to a common citizen and a prisoner. Guided by radical Jacobins, it tried Louis for treason. The Convention found him guilty and sentenced him to death.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Robespierre and his supporters set out to build a "republic of virtue" by wiping out every trace of France's past. They changed the calendar by having no Sundays. In July 1793, Robespierre became the leader of the Committee of Public Safety. Robespierre governed France virtually as a dictator.
