Standards - 

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.SL.5.4 -Report on a topic or text or present an opinion, sequencing ideas logically and using appropriate facts and relevant, descriptive details to support main ideas or themes; speak clearly at an understandable pace.

CCSS.SCIENCE.CONTENT.2 - Students, through the inquiry process, demonstrate the ability to design, conduct, evaluate, and communicate the results and form reasonable conclusions of scientific investigations.

Activities - 

Students will select one of the activities presented in the book and do it. They will then present their activities to the class. They will then take notes and reflect on what they did. They will then present their activities to the class.

This book uses incredible pictures, drawings, and details in order to capture the reader’s attention get them hooked on the wonders of space.

Standards - 

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.5.1 - Write opinion pieces on topics or texts, supporting a point of view with reasons and information.

CCSS.SCIENCE.CONTENT.4 - Students, through the inquiry process, demonstrate knowledge of the composition, structures, processes and interactions of Earth’s systems and other objects in space.

Activities - 

Students will be asked, “What happens when the seasons change? What can you specifically point out about each season?” They will then then have the students write a paper about his or her favorite season. I will give them appropriate websites (those without bad advertisements and are safe for children) to use asresources.

Galileo was one of the first modern astronomers, mathematicians, and physicists around. This book gives the reader a glance of his childhood as well as many of his major accomplishments.

Standards -

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.5.9 - Integrate information from several texts on the same topic in order to write or speak about the subject knowledgeably.

CCSS.SCIENCE.CONTENT.6 - Students understand historical developments in science and technology.

Activities -

There is a timeline on pages 44-45. Each student will be given one of those dates from the list (there are 46 total dates listed). Each student will then research more information on their specific dates on the timeline by using appropriate websites (which I have listed above), along with non-fiction books found in the school library.
