I only student teach during the morning preschool session. The class all seems to be physically developing well. There is only one child that is short for his age, but I know his mom, and she's very tiny so it's just genetics. Only three of the children are not going to Kindergarten next year. I noticed for cognitive development that those three children need more help with zippers, and shoes, and can't write their names yet. The youngest boy in the class who is still three is nonverbal and has some cognitive development issues because oxygen was cut off from his brain. I noticed his speech is getting better and I've been able to understand him much more this past week! For most of the class, social and emotional development seems to be average. There is one child who tends to get a little extra emotional and has autism and ADHD. Sometimes he feels attacked by the other children so I tend to ask him what's wrong and help him work it out with the other kids. One teacher told me that before he got on medication he wasn't very nice to his peers. Most of the children's communication skills are pretty good. The youngest girl and youngest boy can be hard to understand at times. The youngest girl also tends to get whiny at times. The youngest boy is the one who is still kind of non-verbal but is getting much better. I've gotten to know all the children pretty well and some I even see outside of school at the park with my kids! I learn a lot from my mentor every day. She handles situations perfectly and explains everything so well to the children, so I'm learning a ton!

Reflection-
For this assignment I observed the children the week the assignment was due, asked Ms.Heather a few questions about the children's development, and recorded everything I knew about the children's development. I scored well on this assignment so I believe I did okay with it. I believe this assignment demonstrates my growth as a professional because I showed within the assignment that I observe the children well, pay attention to little details, and ask questions. What I learned from this assignment and standard for the future is to always get to know the children's background and development from families or the lead teacher so I can be aware of a special needs children may need within the classroom.

I love it and I cant wait to see more of their schedule tomorrow! A detailed experience I saw the class as a whole doing physical activity from 9:30 am-10 am. There were ten children Friday, normally there will be 12 in the morning and then around 11 there is a merge with some children from the UPK coming over for rest time. On Friday all the children lined up by their cubbies and their names were called one by one by the teacher's aid. Each child was handed a circle mat to put on the floor and stand on in front of the smartboard. Mrs.Walley put youtube videos on the smart board for the children to dance to in their circles that were gathered around toward the front of the classroom. The music videos were kid-friendly, some like; The Hokey Pokey, The Penguin Dance, Freeze Dance, Valentine's Day Dance, and more! The children loved this physical activity and were dancing/hopping around in their circle for the entire half an hour. It was definitely a good exercise! Mrs.Walley said that sometimes they go for walks around the school at this time, or walk down the street, play on the playground, yoga mats inside, chalk art outside, the sensory path around the school, and more!

An experience I was directly involved in was at 10 am when the children were split into groups of two, I stood by the table where children were doing a Valentine's Day craft. The children were directed by Heather to rip red and pink construction paper into small pieces and glue them into a heart on paper. Most of the children were pretty independent with this little project. I did assist a few children in ripping the pieces of construction paper when they couldn't, or asking someone what was wrong when they were getting frustrated with the glue, and I would assist with the glue. They all did a great job and I was happy to assist a bit and get to know them a tiny bit! I asked Heather Walley questions throughout the morning. Some questions like what they do for physical activity, what I can do to help, and how many students are typically in the classroom, she told me about a few students who receive special services.

Reflection- This assignment was my first-ever journal. I did it while I was in the classroom. I observed the children and took notes. I believe this assignment demonstrates my growth as a professional assisted in meeting the standard because you can hear how excited and curious I was to be in the class. What I learned from this assignment was that I had a lot to learn about these children and how to be a good fit in the classroom. I have really strong bonds with some of the children now and I am a good part of the classroom because of this student teaching experience and all of the assignments.

Reflection- For the Play Project I observed and took notes on one child. Heather recommended one boy to study because he's “interesting” so I took notes on what he was saying and doing during centers while playing with large wooden blocks. I did great on this assignment and I believe it demonstrates my growth as a professional and assisted me with meeting the standard because it shows how good I am at anecdotal note-taking, which I feel is an important form of note-taking in early childhood settings. I will take what I learned during this assignment and standard and use it in the future by improving my anecdotal note-taking skills.

Reflection-

This was a fun assignment for me and I did it before it was even posted as an assignment. I used an activity idea I had done a year ago for another class at the previous school I attended. I created a Bee activity lesson plan and cut and put everything together for all of Heather's 19 students. It was so much fun to do with the children! The prepping took a few days. Any downtime I had in the classroom and at home, I would be tracing and cutting out everything for the project. The assignment demonstrates my growth as a professional and it assisted me to meet the specific standard because I learned how to put together a fun and successful lesson plan for 19 students. I will take what I learned from this assignment and standard and make some fun, successful, and amazing lesson plans/activities for the future!

It demonstrates my growth as a professional and helped me meet all the standards because I was very successful in my student teaching and I got a job out of it. I finished my hours two weeks ago and continue to work there weekly in the mornings. I am professional, on time, and a huge help in the Jumpstart classroom. I feel so lucky to have met this wonderful class, and many of them will be attending Kindergarten with my daughter next year. I will take this experience of this project and the entire student teaching experience into my future because it got my foot in the door of a school and it’s been the most insightful, educating experience of my life! Thank you for this experience! In this PowerPoint, you can see more photos from my experience.
