         <title>Cyber-Bullying (Emily Drouet Case 2016) </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The Emily Drouet case is a tragic incident that took place in Scotland in 2016 , Emily was an 18 year old law student at the University of Aberdeen and became a victim of Domestic Abuse both physical and emotional by her boyfriend Angus Milligan.&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><p>Angus Milligan engaged in Cyberbullying and harassing Emily by sending her abusive messages through digital platforms which exacerbated Emily’s distress and for her to take her own life on March 17, 2016.&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><p>The internet which was once a platform for connection and information , has unfortunately become a breeding ground for harassment , intimidation and cruelty. </p><p><br></p><p>Cyberbullying encompasses a range of harmful behaviours conducted online , including but not limited to harassment , impersonation , spreading false information and online sharing. </p><p><br></p><p>Cyberbullying is the act of using digital communication tools such as social media, messaging apps or email to repeatedly harass , intimidate or target an individual often with the intent to cause emotional distress or harm. It can take various forms including spreading rumours , sharing private information without consent or sending threatening messages. </p><p>In many jurisdictions , cyberbullying is recognised as a criminal offence due to its potential to cause severe psychological harm and disrupt a person’s sense of safety and well being. Laws against cyberbullying vary but they generally aim to deter and penalise such behaviour , holding perpetrators accountable for their actions and providing legal recourse for victims.</p><p><br></p><p> In this case , Angus Milligan was charged and subsequently pleaded guilty to a breach of the Abusive behaviour and Sexual Harm Act in connection with his treatment of Emily Drouet. Milligan received a deferred sentence , which included a requirement to attend a domestic abuse program and a restriction on contacting Emily’s family.</p>]]></description>

         <title>Data Breaching (The Ashley Madison Data Breach)</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The Ashley Madison data breach was a major cyber incident that targeted the controversial online dating platform , Ashley Madison , which catered to individuals seeking extramarital affairs.&nbsp;</p><p><br/></p><p>What happened with Ashley Madison was a data breach , a data breach in and of itself is not a crime. Instead , it refers to an unauthorised access , acquisition , or exposure of sensitive or confidential information often involving personal or financial data. The criminal aspect comes into play when the breach is a result of illegal activities such as hacking or intentional data theft. </p><p><br/></p><p>In this case with Ashley Madison , in July of 2015 a group identifying themselves as “The impact team” infiltrated the sits database and exfiltrated sensitive user information including usernames , email addresses and passwords. Motivated by moral objections to the site's business model , the attackers threatened to expose the data unless Ashley Madison was shut down. Subsequently portions of the stolen data were released on the dark web , leading to widespread personal and professional repercussions for those implicated.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p><p><br/></p><p>The breach prompted legal action against Ashley Madison’s parent company , Avid Life Media, resulting in significant financial penalties and a rebranding effort.</p><p><br/></p><p>The incident served as a stark reminder of the importance of robust cybersecurity practices and restorative justice , particularly for platforms handling sensitive user data and ignited discussions about online privacy and the ethical implications of large scale data breaches.&nbsp;</p>]]></description>

         <title>Child Exploitation (Child Bride&#39;s case study&quot; </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Child exploitation is a deeply disturbing and illegal activity that involves the abuse, manipulation, or exploitation of children for various purposes, often for the gratification or financial gain of the perpetrators. </p><p><br></p><p>The case of "Child Brides' involves the discovery of a child exploitation ring where older men were arranging to marry underage girls in exchange for dowries. This practice is illegal , as it involves child exploitation and forced or coerced marriage which is a violation of human rights. </p><p><br></p><p>One notable case involving child marriage is that of Nujood Ali , a young Yemeni girl who made international headlines for her courages efforts to escape a forced marriage.</p><p>In 2008 Nujood Ali was a 10 year old girl from Yemen who was forced into a marriage with a man 20x her age. Her family facing economic difficulties arranged the marriage subjecting her to severe abuse. </p><p>Undeterred Nunjood summoned incredible resilence and managed to flee her husband and seeking help from a judge in Sana'a , Yemen.</p><p><br></p><p>Despite the absence of specific anti-child marriage laws, the judge, Mohammed Alghafari, was moved by Nujood's plight and intervened. He championed her cause in court, leading to a historic decision that granted her a divorce. Nujood's bravery and the subsequent attention her case garnered shed a spotlight on the pervasive issue of child marriage, not only in Yemen but worldwide. Her story has become a beacon of hope and a catalyst for advocacy against child marriage, inspiring countless individuals and organizations to work towards eradicating this harmful practice and empowering young girls to reclaim their rights and futures.</p><p><br></p><p>Efforts are being made globally to combat child marriage through legal reforms, awareness campaigns, education, and support services for those at risk. While progress has been made, there is still work to be done to eradicate this harmful practice and protect the rights and well-being of children worldwide.</p><p><br></p><p><br></p>]]></description>

         <title>Phishing (The Google Docs Phishing Attack) </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The "Google Docs" phishing attack in 2017 was a widespread cyberattack that targeted users of Google's email service, Gmail. The attack was notable for its deceptive nature and the scale at which it affected users. </p><p><br/></p><p>Phishing is considered a cybercrime due to it's deceptive and fraudulent nature. It involves using deceptive and communication method is through email to trick users into revealing sensitive information such as login credentials  personal identification numbers , credit card numbers or other confidential data. The intent to deceive is one of the most common affects that phishing cyber crimes attack with. </p><p><br/></p><p>The google Docs phishing attack case study was about a group of attackers who sent out emails that appeared to be from known contacts , inviting recipients to view a shared google doc document. The link was deceptive and by clicking of the link in the email it would take users to a fake Google login page which was designed to look very similar to a legitimate Google login page. If users entered their login credentials on the fake page , the attackers gained access to their gmails accounts which could help the attackers to automatically send out new phishing emails to the victim's contact further spreading the attack.</p><p><br/></p><p>Google responded promptly by identifying and disabling the malicious accounts responsible for the attack.</p><p><br/></p><p>This attack highlighted the importance of user awareness and vigilance in recognising and avoiding phishing attempts. It also underscored the need for companies to have robust security measures in place to detect and respond to such attacks swiftly.</p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Clark Rockefeller whose real name is Christian Karl Gerhartstreiter is a German con artist who gained notoriety for successfully impersonating a member of the wealthy Rockefeller family for over a decade.</p><p><br/></p><p>Gerhartsreiter arrived in the United States in the late 1970s and assumed various aliases over the years. By using Christopher Chichester identity he ingratiated himself into high society circles convincing people of his affluent background and gain access to exclusive events and social gatherings. </p><p><br/></p><p>Impersonating another person is a serious and pervasive crime. It involves the unauthorised acquisition and use of another persons personal information for fraudulent purposes. </p><p><br/></p><p>Gerhartsreiters case garnered widespread media attention and fascination due to the audacity and length of his commitment to identity theft and raised questions about how he was able to maintain his false identity for so long. Psychological theories were focused on Gerhartsreiter to explain the reasons for his criminal acts.</p><p><br/></p><p>This blog post aims to shed light on the importance of safeguarding your identity in the digital realm and provides practical tips on how to protect yourself from falling victim to this insidious crime.</p>]]></description>
