This meant that most quotas and tariffs were eliminated allowing companies to work across borders without paying any extra fees. This was good for many Canadian companies because it allowed them to work more efficiently as well as create products for a cheaper price. The downside of this was that for some industries such as manufacturing and automotive plants ended up moving a good portion of their work down to Mexico, because their wages were significantly less than in Canada or the United States. The most surprising thing I learned about my topic is that NAFTA can have a huge impact on some industries to a point where some things such as lumber, and dairy end up being exempt from NAFTA because it could cause huge impacts on our economy. 

2. This topic is relevant to me a lot of people like myself who grew up in the Durham Region. When NAFTA began there was a big effect on the GM plant and the economy on the area as whole. Even now, people working at GM are worried that their jobs are going to be moved down to Mexico because of the cheaper wages. Currently NAFTA doesn't put any tariffs on vehicles coming from Mexico so it makes more sense for them to move manufacturing jobs south of the border.

3. The most interesting parts of the research are in to the renegotiation. The current United States government is playing hard ball with us by trying to tariff Canadian lumber, steel and dairy products. If the United States gets their way in the trade agreements this could cause major problems in the Canadian economy.
