Mr Eric: seem like a museum, not interesting enough for the target audience.

Mr Sean: Needs more wow factor, need adrenaline rush. Good layout and sequence of games but need to make more exciting.

Personal Consultation feedback: to do(ask about what we should work on during the holidays for our project to be more exciting. Clarify whether they can accept our approach(visual novel style experience)

We had our Presentation mid-crit of 8mins and 2 mins of feedback.

We received feedback that our themepark seems too mundane and more like a museum instead of a themepark.

Changes we made: we decided to change the river to a slide system which wraps around the diorama, making the theme park a boat ride journey.

Our RetroVerse idea introduces the Singapore River of the 1960s to visitors. During the 1960s, the singapore river still functioned as a trading port, however, with the racial riots that were breaking out, the lives of the locals changed. Navigate the singapore river and complete tasks to receive a reward. (synopsis, backstory)

To get youths, between 13-21 years old (target audience), to take interest in the history of the Singapore River (mission), our theme park will allow them to take the role of a street hawker who sells food along the river. As they complete gamified daily tasks and get into conflict involving racial riots (adventure, activities), they will gain insights through the perspective of a hawker’s life in the 1960s (purpose).

With the gamified, interactive experience, competitive and thrilling nature of the games and the reward system, our theme park will appeal more to our target audience. (communication tactics)

TARGET AUDIENCE

Reason to know:

Youths who are interested in theme park experiences or singapore history might have seen advertisements or heard about it from others.

Reason to go:

They might be intrigued by the concept and rides, as many youths do prefer more thrilling theme park experiences.

Reason to grow:

Visitors will learn more about singapore in the 1960s  and be able to have a fun and memorable experience. The interactive and immersive experience will help them empathise and understand the locals of 1960s singapore on a deeper level.

Reason to share:

They would share it with others to share the fun. We can ensure it by promoting merchandise to keep a ‘record’ of the experience.

Big Idea: A thrilling, trend-driven theme park ride that reimagines the bustling 1960s Singapore River hawker scene as a multi-sensory, immersive adventure.

Target Audience: Gen Zs aged 13–22 in the year 2060 — budget-conscious, thrill-seeking teens who frequent theme parks with friends and family during weekends or holidays.

Know – Discover the vibrant sights, sounds, and stories of 1960s Singapore through an exciting historical experience that blends education with entertainment.

(teaches the visitors how people lived in the past as they interact along the river, give them an interactive, fun experience by making it visual novel, gamelike)

Climax(The visitors wrestles finds clues as the fight between the racial riot groups of customer are about to start) find the clues before it happens

Synopsis 

Going through a hectic day where unluckyness seems to follow you everywhere as a hawker owner from what seems like a mundane trip to stock up on supply goods turns to escaping a warehouse from a group of gangsters from the racial roits. Go through history with a twist.  Solve puzzles and shoot down trash to escape an unsavory fate.

Getting yoiuths interested to learn about the Singapore river in a fun and engaging way. Getting them to go through obstacles to build resilience, making a path of their own solving puzzles and making creative ways to solve problems.

As a Speaker: Found it challenging to convey a clear message across

As a Listener, it was hard to paraphrase and listen actively especially when we just very freshly started without much preparation.

It was easier to play this role. Just side earring the conversation and was very able to take down the notes.

Xy - I liked the synopsis part with

reward systems being implemented. Reason to grow shared was very true and is generally what our diorama story will lookout for.

Chloe - interesting take on building resilience for the youths as a way for growth.

Ash - Intricate display on communication tactics that we can apply. rich reason to grow answer answell ( giving them education through life without technology)

Reflection on the big idea and effective communication techniques.

In today's lecture, i learnt about the communication technique where there is a speaker, listener and observer. In this technique, the speaker presents their idea and the listener listens and paraphrases the speakers words, clarifying the idea, while the observer simply annotates the conversation. In practice, it was a little challenging but after hearing my other group mates trying the technique, i was also able to pick it up. I wrote notes while mingyang and chloe were speaking, as i was the observer during their mini presentation. I also realised that i have been subconsciously using this technique while communicating in group projects or when chatting, even prior to today. It is a good technique to practice active listening and fosters understanding more wholly in a presentation.

I learnt as both a listener and speaker to phrase my words better and to articulate my sentence in a more clear way. From a listener, I could have paraphrase my question a bit more clearing and lessen my filler words when speaking and engage in better eye contact. As a speaker I could have spoken more clearly but I was able to express my ideas sufficiently. From an observer, I noticed many of people were engaged

Act 1, The beginning:

Touchpoint 1: Entrance

Visitors are guided to ride lighter boats across a river surrounding the RetroVerse theme park. Upon reaching the dock, visitors are greeted by staff who guide them and explain the game. The view is of many other lighter boats and an open sunny harbour with unloaded cargo and bags or rice.

Act 2, The middle:

Touchpoint 2: Rides

Visitors follow a storyline that requires them to move from ride to ride, each ride with different exciting adventure. They experience the conflict of story with an immersive and thrilling ride.

Act 3, The ending:

Touchpoint 3: Takeaway + exit

Takeaway: Through the experience, visitos get a glimpse of what life was like for workers at boat quay during the racial riots of the 1960s.

Exit: Visitors take a old-school lift down to the first level and exit the theme park via the lighter boats

• cut out circles and squares (S- 6cm diameter/length, M- 9cm, L- 13cm)

• fold the edges outwards and glue it down

• gather the basket using straight stitch, tighten until necessary

• paint it over using acrylic paint (brown)

• add some paper/cardboard to the bottom of the bag for support (if needed)

• use my white craft glue and clear glue to stick grains and rice to the bags

• for other larger spices, can make using coloured paper and stick it

cabinets, boxes, chairs and tables:

• use cardboard and box-making stencils to create

• for the legs of the chair, use chopsticks and ice cream stciks for support

• use glue and double sided tape to stick (no scotch tape)

• paint it with acrylic if necessary

• for extra compartments/shelves, add a piece of cardboard in after making main frame

All painting should be left till the end to ensure consistency

Make more angled shot scenes :

High angle, mid angle, low angle. Our current shots are all too top down, not enough variety.

Play with lighting better, see how our hi fi can create better lighting.

Task for myself: redo level 3 of our diorama props. ( I have done 2 cabinets and 1 rack, xi yuan assisted in making some small crate boxes).

(the scale of our hifi turned out alot smaller, and there was already enough props made for it)

I will create the template.

Then I will stay back on wednesday and thursday afternoon to make our diorama slides.

Our presentation day for our HiFi went better than anticipated!

We managed to present our slides on time and even showcased our lofi test video.

There was positive feedback on our diorama, lectuerers mentioned that the interior decor was beautifully done.

Lecturers also shared that our diorama utilised the space requirements well and space was taken well into consideration in our HiFi Diorama.

As for advice on our filming.

We can use light source to shine a new texture onto the diorama.

Make use of the window openings to shooting the film as it showcases the interiors really well.

Take advantage of lighting for our diorama as there is good shade used.

Thats all, we can proceed towards our filming and editing now!

Overally, this whole WIU project was very long emotional roller coaster that gave me the opportunity to learn many new skills. The project started in wk3, when we first warmed up to our group members and worked on a small group activity together. Subsequently, we spent the rest of the school term mainly conducting research, compiling data and visualising our ideas. The next term, we started on constructing our first prototype, a low-fidelity prototype made mainly out of paper and cardboard. This LoFi prototype gave us the opportunity to test out a physical model of our idea which was previously only on paper. The process of the prototype was a struggle, allowing us to exercise our problem-solving skills and even our crafting skills. After completely the LoFi, we advanced on to our HiFi prototype. During the process of constructing our 2nd prototype, we were on a time crunch. We found it challenging to complete a full, high quality, detailed and eye-catching diorama in only 3 weeks. Despite that, we perservered and continued striving for quality and detail. All in all, i think that i have learnt many useful skills like crafting precision and 3D space planning, sculpting skills, lighting adjustments and cinematographic skills.

i ‘m happy that we have finally reach the end of this WIU, this was definitely both a project that put us through the limit and brought us closer together as a group. Everyone did a great job on their part and dispite the time crutch during the last week we managed to pull through and putout a decent job in the end. In the end, I managed to learn a lot about diorama making and working as team, listening and taking in others commemnts and developing myself along with it.

Reflection

I am glad to conclude this long and arduous journey of a WIU assignment with

the professional assistance of my group members. I truly am satisfied with our progress coming into fruition. Our diorama turned better than anticipated and

with multiple consultations and drafts, it has sincerely thought me better on cooperation and execution skills and I am confident that looking back at this journey will surely give me motivation to tackle future obstacles with greater tenacity and vigor.
