THERE ARE A LOT OF RITUALS IN MOTHER GANGES

Along the river you can see Hindu do a lot of different rituals. For example: they throw in the river grain, garlands, pink lotus flowers and small gifts such as oil lamps and candles.
Or they drink the water, and others put the water of the Ganges in a brass container that is taken to the temple.
Other rituals provide that the Hindu turns to the sun splashing the water with his hands like he is saying hello; while in others they dive into the river to free the body from sins.
Rituals consist also in passing the Brahmins's thread from the right shoulder to the left, while the water descends on their neck.
Many people wash themselves with the ashes of sacrificial pyres; others paint their body with vertical or horizontal signs on the head (depending if they pay homage to Vishnu or Shiva).
And, the Brahmins practice "pranayama", breathing exercises accompanied by symbolic performance of their hands that represent the ten incarnations of Vishnu.
(Luisa Scantone)
