These courses can be run as a freestanding one-day courses, one day on maths or one day on English and as the first stage of a package leading on to the three-day 'Coaching skills for developing English resilience' course.

]]> 2017-09-19 13:41:38 UTC https://padlet.com/emandeln/londonetf/wish/188885898 Professional development programme to support the teaching of Functional Skills in maths and English emandeln https://padlet.com/emandeln/londonetf/wish/199912873 The Education and Training Foundation (ETF) has commissioned ccConsultancy and partners to develop and deliver professional development courses for teachers of Functional Skills maths and English using a new set of materials, developed by Pye Tait Consulting on behalf of ETF, to support the teaching and learning of these qualifications. 

The content of the materials is engaging and will help build learner confidence. They’re appropriate to a range of contexts, including 16-19 learners, apprentices, adult returners, learners in prisons and ESOL, and can be used in both high and low-tech teaching environments. 

The offer comprises:
  • Interactive webinars introducing the materials and how they can be used 
  • One-day practitioner courses (one maths and one English) that will enable practitioners to explore the Functional Skills subject materials in depth and understand the underpinning approaches that shape them 
  • Two-day, in-house CPD courses that will enable teams of Functional Skills teachers to receive bespoke support to meet their learners’ needs and secure high-quality learning outcomes.

Booking will be open from November/ December, and courses will be delivered from February 2018.

This is a great opportunity to develop and enhance professional practice, and we expect demand for places to be high.

The course links AfL to learner motivation, engagement and achievement and explores subject-specific, AfL approaches, pedagogy and resources. You will design learning tasks that enable learners and teachers to monitor, evaluate and review progress, to build on learners' prior knowledge, and match teaching to learners' needs.
