Years explored:
1607 (first journey as ship commander)-1611 set adrift around Hudson Bay with his son and several others. 

Purpose for exploration:
His goal for all four of his voyages was to find a non-icy water route to Asia. In his first voyage in 1607, which was funded by the Muscovy Company (an English firm), he went near Greenland. He found there were plenty of whales in the local waters. His second voyage the following year went north of Russia and they made it to the Novya Zemlya archipelago, but still no route. After joining the Dutch East India Company in 1609 he tried once more north of Russia, but failed and went straight westward to North America. After coming back to Europe he set out for America in April 1610. Unfortunately none of the voyages yielded the route to Asia Hudson sought out.

Discovered:
He actually never found his route to Asia. Though he didn't find a route, he discovered areas around the Hudson Bay and River. 
He explored near Greenland, north of Russia, and got marooned near Hudson Bay (it was named after him postmortem). On his third voyage he sailed on the Hudson River (also named for him postmortem). His voyages paved the way for the Dutch to colonize the Hudson River region (New Amsterdam) and English to lay claim on Canadian land.

1) 3 interesting facts:
He had such a knack for navigation he became a ship commander in his late 20s.
2) His own crew put him, his son John, and several others in a boat to die in or near the Hudson Bay on his last voyage, around June 1611. The rest of the crew returned to England, and that was the last anyone heard of Hudson and the others left behind.

Many reasons including being sent to put a stop the spanish conqueror Hernando Cortes, sailing to the West Indies as part of a huge expedition of 30 ships and 2500 soldiers to colonize the island of Cuba, and  The Cabrillo Expedition which was to sail out of Navidad to basically explore.

What did he discover? 

Cabrillo was the first to chart the coastline of California.He was also the first to bring back to New Spain reports of the various Indian groups living along the coast and he officially claimed the land for Spain.

Years Explored: Zheng He went on 7 voyages from 1405 up until his death in 1433.
Purpose: The Yongle Emperor designed those voyages to establish a Chinese presence and impose imperial control over the indian ocean. The voyages were also designed to establish trade relationships with various parts of Southeast Asia, India, Arabia and Africa
Discovered: During his voyages Zheng He discovered foreign animals for China, like giraffes, lions, zebras and leopards. He also extended China's political influence throughout Asia.
Interesting Facts:
1) Zheng He defeated Chen Zuyi, the most dangerous pisarte of the time
2) His original name, Ma He, was a Chinese translation for Muhammad.
3) On his trip Malindi, he brought back a giraffe to china where it was recognized as a qilin, which is a mythical creature that can be compared to a unicorn.

~The primary purpose for Marquette's explorations was his ability to be a Jesuit missionary, and to spread the word of God to the Native American people.  
~ Marquette founded the first European settlement which is called Sault Ste. Marie, in Michigan 1668, and then in 1671, he founded St. Ignace, which is also located in Michigan. Marquette was first sent to find the mouth of the Mississippi River, but when fear of coming across the Spanish set in, the headed back home on the Illinois River. Most of his explorations were to begin missions, not to discover new worlds.

 In March 1598, Oñate's expedition moved out and forged the Rio Grande (Río del Norte) south of present-day El Paso and Ciudad Juarez in late April.On the Catholic calendar day of Ascension, April 30, 1598, the exploration party assembled on the south bank of the Rio Grande.All summer, Oñate's expedition party followed the middle Rio Grande Valley to present day northern New Mexico.
In 1601, Oñate undertook a large expedition east to the Great Plains region of central North America.
Oñate’s last major expedition went to the west, from New Mexico to the lower valley of the Colorado River. The party of about three dozen men set out from the Rio Grande valley in October 1604.
The reasons of these explorations were to expand New Spain, the more the merrier. By discovering more tribes and terrains in North America, he was able to help establish provinces. But his greatest motivation for eploration was riches, he searched from California to Kansa searching for Silver or Gold, but came empty handed.

  1.  Hemarried Isabel de Tolosa Cortes de Moctezuma, grandaughter of Hernan Cortes , the conqueror of the Triple Alliance,  , and the great-granddaughter of the Aztec Emperor Moctezuma Xocoyotzin.
  2. He was known for his heartless actions toward natives, causing his monarh to think of him a failure. This caused the King to make Juan move to spain to supervise mines instead of people.
  3. Oñate's forces killed 800 people and captured 500 women and children and 80 men.
    After a "trial", everyone over the age of 12 was enslaved; all men over 25 had a foot amputated.

Pedro Cabral was friends with Vasco de Gama, the first European to sail around the top of Africa. After de Gama returned from his voyage the king of Portugal asked him to go on another voyage to India. De Gama was exhausted and asked Cabral to go for him. Cabral left Lisbon, Portugal in March of 1500 and was headed to go around the end of Africa and then to India. Cabral's 13 ships went way too far west and were headed to South America. No one knows if Cabral went to South America because of bad winds or to restrain some land for Portugal as a result of the Treaty of Tordesilla (1494). In April of 1500 he and his ships set foot in Brazil. Cabral was very friendly with the natives, inviting them on ship and trading with them. Originally Cabral called Brazil, Vera Cruz (Island of the Cross). He took some land under the name of the Portuguese King. A few days later he got back on his ship and went to India for real this time. The voyage was rough and when he got to India, that September, the welcome wasn't near as friendly as expected. Cabral eventually ended up coming home with 4 of the 13 ships he started with. He thought the King would be furious and he was worried he'd never be as famous as his friend de Gama. He was wrong the king was very happy with his voyage and asked Pedro Cabral to go on many more trips to India. Cabral is known for the discovery of Brazil but he spent most of his time in India and Portugal.

He died on May 21, 1542. Hernando de Soto was a Spanish explorer and conquistador. His years of exploration were in between 1530 and 1542. Hernando de Soto helped supply ships for Francisco Pizzaro's southward expedition and he ended up going with Pizzaro on his conquest of Peru in 1532. De Soto was searching for lots of riches, later on in 1538, he went on a huge expedition to conquer Florida for the Spanish crown. De Soto, along with his men, were the first Europeans to discover the Mississippi River and crossing it too.
Some interesting facts about Hernando de Soto were that he made a huge fortune in the Central American slave trade. Another interesting fact is that De Soto, also was a major role on defeating the Incas in the Battle of Cajamarca. He discovered a shipping route from Europe to Asia, rounding the Cape of Good Hope and Africa's southern point, Cabo Das Agulhas, and entered the Indian Ocean.

1) Bartolomeu Dias was the first European explorer who made it that far when exploring Africa.
2) Bartolomeu Dias gave Cape of Good Hope the name of “Cape of Storms”.
3) While Portugal did not make any expeditions for around ten years, Bartolomeu Dias constructed two ships: Sao Gabriel and Rafael.

At 15 he was learning at a Jesuit noviciate  but he wanted to adventure out so he left but was seen as morally weak because he wanted to be released from his vows

He was born in Sines, Portugal and explored for Portugal. He explored from 1497-1524 on three different voyages. His purpose for exploring was to find a route to the east. He then discovered a route from Europe to India. He was awarded title of count of Vidigueiro by the king. He returned to India because he was appointed by viceroy there.
