Venice, Italy is located in the North Eastern part of Italy on the coast by the Adriatic Sea. The situation of Venice can be described by saying that there are waterways, canals, and a sea surrounding the city.

One of the main things people who live in Venice do and tourists do is travel around in a gondola. Nobody really travels by automobile. If you want to get around in Venice, you either walk or ride a boat. The way everything was built makes the roads too narrow, and there are a lot of steps to walk around on. It would be hard to drive cars or take a bike.

Italy has many regions, but Venice is a part of the formal Veneto Region. Because of Venice's convenient canals surrounding the city, Venice was always used for trade for spices and such. Their economy is also highly dependent on neighboring cities like Mastre because of shipbuilding. This is how Venice connects to a functional region. It makes sense for a lot of people to view Italy as really enchanting and pretty.

A lot of people that live in Venice mostly stay there because they live on small islands, friction of distance, and the canals. The only way distance decay could affect any place is because of cultures. For example: a place like Venice doesn't interact with places like The USA or Asia because they are so different. Time-space Compression: Thanks to airplanes and boats, people can travel to and within Venice helping the economy.
