اشتركَ أحمدُ في رحلةٍ مدرسيةٍ إلى منطقةِ دبينَ، ولاحظَ في أثناءِ سيرِهِ وجودَ كائناتٍ صفراءِ اللونِ تنمو على الشجرِ، وسألَ معلمَهُ عنها، فقالَ المعلمُ: هي مخلوقاتٌ حيّةٌ مكوّنةٌ منْ طحلبٍ وفطرٍ يعيشانِ معيشةً تكافليّةً؛ فالطُّحلبُ يقومُ بعمليّةِ البناءِ الضّوئيِّ وإنتاجِ الموادِّ العضويَّةِ اللّازمةِ للفطرِ، والفطرُ يمتصُّ الماءَ والأملاحَ؛ ليمدَّ بها الطُّحلبَ. وتعدُّ الأشناتُ مصدرًا لمختلفِ المركّباتِ الكيميائيّةِ الّتي تُستخدمُ في الأدويةِ، وفي الرّوائحِ والصّابونِ، كما تُستخدمُ غذاءً للإنسانِ وبعضِ الحيواناتِ، وتعملُ على تفتيتِ الصّخورِ الّتي تنمو عليْها، فتساعدُ على زيادةِ خصوبةِ التّربةِ.

معركةٍ لَها معَنا، مِنْ هذِهِ الهجماتِ ما عُرفَ باسمِ إنفلونزا الطّيورِ، ويسبّبُهُ نوعٌ منَ الفيروساتِ يصيبُ الطّيورَ، لا سيّما
 الإوزُّ والحبشُ والبطُّ والدّجاجُ، ويتطوّرُ في أجسامِها، وإذا انتقلَ إلى الإنسانِ،
 فإنهُ يتطوّرُ داخلَ جسمِهِ، وينتقلُ منْهُ إلى الآخرينَ بالعدْوى.
ومنها الإنفلونزا الموسميةُ، التي يُسبّبُها مَزيجٌ منَ الفيروساتِ الواردةِ منَ الخنازيرِ والطّيورِ والبشرِ؛ ولأنَّ أعدادًا هائلةً منَ النّاسِ أُصيبَتْ بعدواها في سنةِ 2009، فقدْ أعلَنَتْ مُنظّمةُ الصّحّةِ العالميّةُ أنَّ إنفلونزا فيروسِ H1N1 وباءٌ عالَمِيُّ. وفي آبَ عامَ 2010 ، أَعْلَنَتْ منظّمةُ الصّحّةِ العالميّةِ  انتهاءَ هذا الوباءِ العالميِّ.
وقدِ اكتُشِفَ نوعٌ جديدٌ منَ الفيروساتِ، مُسَبِّبٌ انتشارَ أحدِ الأمراضِ الّتي بدأَتْ في الصّينِ عامَ 2019 . ويُسمّى المرضُ النّاتجُ عنْهُ مرضَ (كوفيد 19 ). وقدْ أعلنَتْ منظّمةُ الصّحّةِ العالميّةُ أنَّها صنّفَتْ 
مرضَ فيروسِ كورونا 2019 (كوفيد 19) جائحةً، ولا تزالُ معركتُنا قائمةً معَهُ.
