What Happened During The Red Scare?

The Red Scare was a time period in the Cold War. In this period, the U.S. suspected that there were Soviet spies in the U.S. By this I mean that during the Red Scare, American Representatives and Officials investigated people to make sure they were loyal to the U.S. government and that they were not Soviet spies. According to https://www.history.com/topics/cold-war/red-scare, “HUAC’s (House Un-American Committee) investigations frequently focused on exposing Communists working inside the federal government or subversive elements working in the Hollywood film industry, and the committee gained new momentum following World War II, as the Cold War began.” This quote explains how and why the American Government investigated citizens. I can connect because sometimes I steal the phone charger from my mom and then she finds out, just like how a Soviet spy would lie and the U.S. Government would find out.

Was The Red Scare an Open Conflict or Crisis?

This was a crisis. What I mean by this is that this was not a violent time period, instead, people were just trying to figure out who was lying about their loyalty and why. According to https://www.history.com/topics/cold-war/red-scare
, they state that “Federal employees were analyzed to determine whether they were sufficiently loyal to the government, and the House Un-American Activities Committee, as well as U.S. Senator Joseph R. McCarthy, investigated allegations of subversive elements in the government and the Hollywood film industry.” This shows that no violence occurred during the Red Scare, and that it was just a crisis that occured in the U.S. I can relate because most of the time when I argue with someone I do not be violent and I do not him them.

In this topic, the right to nationality was expressed. The right to nationality is human right #15, and it means that everyone has the right to belong to a country. It was expressed in this topic because the soviets belonged to the communist country of Russia while the Americans represented their free, democratic country. It says in https://www.history.com/topics/cold-war/red-scare that ¨Communists were often referred to as ´Reds´ for their allegiance to the red Soviet flag.¨ This quote shows that the soviets had allegiance to their soviet flag and represented their nationality. I can connect because I am an american and I have the right to represent my nationality.

Determine if this affected the social, economic, military and political conflicts during the Cold War.

The Red Scare affected the political conflicts in this war because the reds went into america to try and gain secret information. By this I mean that the soviets entered america to learn secret information, and once america learned about this, they were afraid they would get information about their nuclear weapons, therefore they started to investigate. According to https://www.history.com/topics/cold-war/red-scare, ¨The Red Scare led to a range of actions that had a profound and enduring effect on U.S. government and society. Federal employees were analyzed to determine whether they were sufficiently loyal to the government, and the House Un-American Activities Committee, as well as U.S. Senator Joseph R. McCarthy, investigated allegations of subversive elements in the government and the Hollywood film industry. The climate of fear and repression linked to the Red Scare finally began to ease by the late 1950s." This quote explains that The Red Scare literally ¨scared¨ American and political leaders which resulted in a crisis that lasted to the 1950s, and many officials had to investigate people as a result of this crisis. I can connect because sometimes when I watch a horror movie and someone´s inside the main character´s house, I get scared because a random person is inside someone´s house.
