The most outstanding drawback of studying overseas is the high cost of living.

In fact, renting a house or an apartment in North America or Europe is expensive due to the exchange rate. Additionally, most scholarship programs do not cover the renting and living money, so the students have to depend on their family support.

As a consequence, this will be a burden to their family economy, as it is hard to maintain the balance between earning and spending.

Another point to mention is that learning new knowledge in a different language is intimidating.

To be specific, not only the lecturers but also the academic materials use foreign language with specialized terms and words that are hard to understand.

Thus, learners will have to spend extra amount of time in search of the meaning of these words.

The first disadvantage of studying abroad is the difficulty in adapting to a new place of residence. International students may experience jet lag. For example, Vietnamese students who have just arrived in the US will experience significant jet lag due to sleep disorders. In addition, the local lifestyle and cuisine are not always pleasant to newcomers. As a result, international students may experience stress and fatigue during this period of adaptation.

The second advantage is the safety of living in the host country. International students may face dangers from robbery, fraud and kidnapping. For example, the problem of racial discrimination in some countries can be life-threatening for international students of color. Furthermore, studying abroad in countries with political and lifestyle differences can cause many unavoidable conflicts. Therefore, students will have to live in constant vigilance and lose the comfort to focus on their goals.
