Divergent by Veronica Roth

Veronica Roth's Divergent is an exhilarating fierce story created in a dystopian society about a girl who is unlike the other hiding dangerous secrets as she travels to her newly found home where she is forced to be someone she is not in her chosen factions. In this society their world is created into five factions, Dauntless(the brave), Amity(the peaceful), Erudite(the intelligent, Abnegation(the selfless), and Candor(the honest). Everyone in the society is forced to take an aptitude test to decide which faction they fit into, and everyone only fits into one. But Tris Prior, fit into all of them, becoming known as a divergent. If any Divergent is found, they are assassinated. I loved most about this book is the character development of Tris Prior, the books character, as she fought against the troubled society alone.
-Skylar Rucci
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/15/books/review/young-adult-books-divergent-by-veronica-roth.html?mcubz=0

The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky

The Perks of Being a Wallflower follows a boy named Charlie through the majority of his high school years as he confronts many different issues; sexuality, substance abuse, mental health, and his past. Charlie is depicted as being a "wallflower" from early on, meaning he listens to people and feels for them. Far too many times, however, Charlie is too busy watching and listening to others that he cannot confront his own past and the problems it has sprung. The novel is a beautifully written story that touches on issues that many teenagers face, including anxiety, stress, doubt, and others. Stephen Chbosky does a wonderful job of telling this tale while maintaining a secretive and intriguing story line and it is bound to touch the heart of whoever the reader may be, just as it touched mine.
-Peyton Patrick
https://www.theguardian.com/childrens-books-site/2015/aug/07/the-perks-of-being-a-wallflower-stephen-chbosky-review

The Gender Game by Bella Forrest

In this dystopian novel, a toxic river divides a nation by gender. On the Matrus side of the river women rule the land, and the Patrus side of the river is ruled by men. A nineteen year old by the name of Violet runs into bad luck with her past and becomes a prisoner sentenced to death by her nation of Matrus. The only way to escape her fate is to enter the kingdom of Patrus on a secret mission where women have no rights and submit to men. She is thrown into chaos with a man she has never met, and struggles with her new identity. This book is now one of my favorite novels, and I love how it greatly demonstrates gender roles and the affect it can have on a society. In The Gender Game, its interesting to see what happens when a society is ruled only by men or women. It proves that women can be just as harsh and strict as men, and its a very eye opening book.
- Celina Morello
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/31131467-the-gender-game
