I think the tone of today's reading is kind of joyful and happy in the beginning because it says that Brom Bones was "sitting in a corner looking sorely smitten with love and jealousy, sat brooding by himself in one corner while his enemy was dancing with Katrina". But then, it turns sad and forlorn because when Ichabod wanted to have a tête-à-tête with Katrina but Washington Irving is describing it kind of as if Katrina is nowhere to be found. Almost as if she doesn't want to talk to Ichabod. Finally, it turns spooky after he hears the story of John Andre.

I think the tone of today's reading is happy, joyful, and loving at the start of the story because it says "Old Van Tassel moved about among his guests with a face full of good humor, round and jolly as the harvest moon." But then the story takes a long turn to sad and unhappy when Ichabod wants to have a têtê- a- têtê with Katrina Van Tassel. Also Washington Irving is describing it is like Katrina is nowhere to be seen and does not want to talk to him. Finally, the tone turns spooky after he hears the story of John Andre.
