  • This article describes how 'greenwashing' takes place, which is when brands try to convince consumers that they are 'planet friendly' but in reality have made little to no changes to be sustainable. I believe students may be interested in this as most of them will be aware of the celebrity culture surrounding the Kardashians, and will make the topic more realistic for them

How you might use this stimulus material in class 

Students should have an initial discussion in groups on how many of them have a mobile phone, how many of their parents have cars, how many of them have been on a plane etc. Follow this up with what do they think all of these items are made of and where do the raw materials come from. Could also ask them some questions in groups about how old they were when they started their first summer job and what it involved and how much they got paid.
