Fast Food

The United States of America is mostly known for its fast food chains. Whenever we as Europeans think of ‘’America’’ there is no doubt that most of us think the about fast food and obesity. On pretty much every corner you can find some sort of fast food restaurant. These can be chains that are internationally known, like McDonalds and Burger king, or regional chains that you can only find in certain parts of the US, like chick-fil-a and in ‘n out burger. There are many types of fast food chains, think of places that sell hamburgers and French fries, but also places like Taco Bell that sell Mexican food. Within these fast food chains there are different ways to order your food. The most common one is counter service. This is where you walk in the restaurant and order your food by the counter. Counter service can be divided in two sections; eating in and take out. Secondly there is the drive-thru. You do not have to leave your car and can just order and pick up your food through windows. One of my favourites is the carhop or drive-in service. You park your car, order through a machine and someone from inside comes out to bring you your food. I have only done this once, and the waitress came out in roller skates which gave me old-school American vibes, as if I was in a movie. So overall, I feel like fast food is a big aspect when it comes to the American culture, and is something that will not leave that image anytime soon.

New York City is one of the most popular cities in the United States. It is also the most densely populated major city in the States. New York City has been described as the cultural, financial and media capital of the world. The city is divided in five boroughs; Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, The Bronx and Staten Island. In this city you can find many nationalities, 3.2 million residents within New York City were born outside of the Unites States. This makes it the largest foreign-born population of any city in the world. When the Dutch came to New York City in the late 16’s they called is New Amsterdam, this was later renamed to New York after the land was granted to the Duke of York. New York City counts many districts and landmarks that are known world-wide. One of the most popular is Times Square. Times Square is a major commercial intersection, tourist destination, entertainment centre and neighbourhood, which you can find in Manhattan. New York City also has some great skyscraper you can visit, think of The Empire State Building, Rockefeller Plaza and the One World Trade Building. All of these are worth a visit as they give you an amazing view of the entire city. Lastly, Central Park. A beautiful park in the middle of this busy city. It’s a great place to relax, go for stroll or have a little workout.

Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort California are 2 of the most visited theme parks in the United States. People from all over the world travel to Orlando or Anaheim to pay a visit to their favourite Disney characters. Disneyland in Anaheim, California, is the first Disney Park to ever open, on July 17, 1955. Nearly 50 years later, in 2001, Disneyland was renamed the Disneyland Resort as they not only opened up new hotels but also a completely new park. Two new hotels opened its doors in the beginning of 2001, followed by Disney California Adventure Park and Downtown Disney, a shopping area. In 1971 The Walt Disney World Resort opened in Orlando, Florida. At this time the resort only consisted of the Magic Kingdom and three resort hotels. In 1982 the resort expanded with the opening of a second and a third theme park, Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Six year later, in 1989, a whole new sort of park came to the resort, Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon, which was a waterpark. Not long after they introduced another waterpark, Disney’s Blizzard beach in 1995. In 1998 came on of the biggest expansions, a new theme park, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, a new shopping area, Disney Springs and a total of eighteen new resort hotels. Because of the many things Walt Disney World has to offer it is the flagship of the Worldwide Disney parks and resorts and is the most visited vacation resort in the world.
