         <title>Word Sort Strategy</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Students are given a list of 10-20 words to sort into categories.<br><br></div><ul><li>Closed Word Sort–The teacher provides the categories (and the specific features of each) to the students. The students then match the words with the features to create the word collections.  (i.e. letter sounds, meanings)</li><li>Open Word Sort–The teacher provides only the list of words. Students work together to discern the common features and to describe the categories for collect </li></ul><div><br>Open word sort allows for higher order thinking.<br><br>Can be used for an individual activity or a group.<br><br>Can be varied such as a speed sort or pictures.<br><br>Can use it for ELLs.</div>]]></description>
