But her wand was broken.

The spider was too big.

Too big for Mrs. Potter, so it was not fun.

The spider was hungry.

And then she ate Lily.

She wanted to go out because it's summer,

But she needed to demand to her mother,

Last night, I did a terrible mistake. I wanted to talk to you about that because after I had made this mistake I thought you would be the only one to anderstand me. So this is what happened : Since two years I had been working on a project that I was about to accomplish last night : I wanted to recreate life. Of course, for that, I had needed to find body parts before starting to work on this huge project. It wasn't a very good moment because I undug bodies after I had selected the exact persons I wanted to take the body parts on to create the best creature possible. After that I worked for a long time and then cale what happened last night. So, as I said, I was working on the creature , when he suddently woke up. I had looked at him a certain time before I went in my room because I felt disgusted. Later, I saw him in my room staring at me after I had woken up from a nightmare about my mom. I was really scared because he was very near to me so I decided to run away. I walked all the night, after I had took refuge in the courtyard, to see if the creature wasn't around. So I didn't sleep that night and to be honest, I don't know if I could do it this night too because I still have his image in my head. It's pretty weird because on the one hand I'm happy that my project succeeded, but on the other hand I'm scared because I'm afraid he can come and catch me at any time... And if I had kept these feelings at first, it was before I realised that the worst part of all was the fact that I miserably gave life to this made-up and inanimated body itself. After that I had walked the street until I came to this little calm place from where I'm writing to you. I don't know what to do and what to think about my situation and what I've done so I hope you will give me some tips.

Last night something strange happened during my experiment. I had pressed a button without paying attention and everything began to vibrate. he air had become strange and an electric noise had invaded the room. he machine seemed to be alive, as if something had been triggered. I think I had opened a kind of door to something science won't be able to stop. It was both scraring and fascinating. I had the impression to have either made a big discovery or something that would destroy the world.

Last night,something happened. I wrote a letter to describe my feeling about this chaotic event. When I had studied at university of science, I learnt a lot of things that I wish forgetten but I did not so I created an horrible monster that night. In the laboratory I'd found all the instruments that I needed to created that monster but I don't remember what's happened, I remember that I was drunk and I was running away the laboratory, I was afraid of the monster then I'd found a haunted house where I slept because I wanted to believe that I hadn't done that.

I'm afraid about my creation for the country. In my head, I wanted only to reanimate the person and that's all. 

However, some problems arrived after, I had spent two years working on the body.

When I had worked on the body, he woke up. I was afraid at the moment but I wanted to know his face, his skin.

I had thought that I made a big catastrophe.

Indeed, the monster had bad and good things, like his yellow skin, his beautiful muscles, that form a horrid contrast.

I had hidden in my bedroom and I had thought that I was sure here but the monster came.

I ran away outside in the courtyard to escape the monster after I created him. These creature had followed me so I must ran again and again.

I'm sending you away this letter to tell you about my last creation that I realised with the secret I had found about "bringing things to life" , it actually happend but not in the way i had anticipated. The creature I had built from different corpses parts was horrible, at first i thought it would look beautiful but when i had used my secret it started moving and made me pass out from shock. I wish you had seen it you would have reacted like i did. It was really scary because he was sat down on my bed when i woke up. i was so scared that i decided to run away but i'm also scared that it turns against me because i aboandoned him. would you mind if you come visit me to discuss about it and give me some advices.

I wish that you had a good day, mine was terrible and horrific, I think that I done a mistake by creating something that you wouldn’t expected si in this letter il going to explain what happened last night.

I was taking something to drink when I had a revelation on how bring to life ”someone” or ”something” if we can called it like that, if only you was here I would describe how I made it and helped me on some other points.

So get back to the ”thing”, I called it Frankenstein and he´s very scary he got a pale skin and the thing that scared me the most was that he can walked !

This scared me at a point that you can know so I locked the door of the laboratory and ran take something sharp if he was dangerous.

Last night I had lived a terrible experience... I gave birth to a monster! For a long time I had wanted to know the very essence of life, I had wanted to recreate it. But now I'm more terrified than ever of my creation! I had hoped during all years that this experience achieve to a new life, but I had been blind. The thing that I had believed be my masterpiece actually happened to be my worst nightmare. When I had seen his yellow skin, watery eyes, black lips; a wave of shivers ran down my back. This last hours, I had thought, again and again, what did I expect? If only I had could to go back and I had never taken this mistake... This is too late now... I had decided to run away, to leave this monster. I wish that you can give me good advices. With all' of my friendship!

Dear Diary,

The dust is everywhere on our clothes, in our mouths, even in our dreams. We left Oklahoma three days ago. Papa said we couldn’t survive another failed crop. The wind had stripped our fields bare. There’s nothing left but hope.

Mama holds the baby close, trying to shield her from the grit, but there’s no real escape. My younger brother hasn’t smiled in days. It’s hard to be a child when the world feels so heavy.

We saw other families on the road, faces tired and eyes full of questions. California feels like a promise, like maybe we’ll find work and bread and clean air. I miss our home, but I dream of something better of a place where the land is green again.

Hope is all we carry now.

The wind howled again last night, a mournful sound that seems to follow us no matter where we go. This morning, we packed what little we have left into the old Ford. Papa says California is our only hope now. I keep thinking about our farm back in Oklahoma, the fields of wheat golden under the sun. Now, it's all dust and memories.

Mama tries to keep our spirits up, but I see the worry etched on her face. My little brother, Tom, doesn't understand. He just clutches his worn-out teddy bear and asks when we'll have a real home again. The road stretches endlessly before us, a ribbon of dirt leading to an uncertain future. I dream of green fields, a house with walls that don't let the dust in, and a school where I can learn and laugh with other children.

We passed another family today, their car piled high like ours. Their faces mirrored our own – tired, worn, but with a flicker of hope in their eyes. We are all in this together, searching for a place where we can start again. I pray we find it soon.

First, I woke up like all the days and I prepared myself. This morning, I took the truck and with my wife, we went to the city to refill the grocery for the next month and the food are more expensive each month. It's a real problem for us because we don't have a lot of money and if the harvest is bad or if there is not some rain before this summer, I don't know how we can survive ?

In the shop there're some people because it's the only store of the state. At midday, we ate a small and simple sandwich.

This afternoon, we bought too the food for the animals and some pieces for the tractor because I must repair it for the hardvest. After that, we went back to the farm and when we arrived, we had to put the grocery.

At 4:00 p.m. when we had finish to tidy, I had decided to begin the reparations of the tractor but I found some other problems if I don't have these pieces. So, in one month, when we'll going to the city. I'll buying and I could repair all the problems if I don't find other problems at this moment.

To finish the day, I took a good shower and I ate the dinner and now I'm writting my day.

Consequently, I wish that, there're some rain in the coming days and that there're not some news problems during the reparation of the tractor.

This morning, we packed everything we could carry.We left early because the sun is very hot in the afternoon.

Now we are resting under a small tent. My parents look very tired. My little sister is sleeping.

We drove many hours today. The road was long and the dusty. I saw many other families with old cars and sad faces.

I feel tired and hungry. My hands are dirty and my clothes are old. But mama says California will be different. She says we will find work and food there.

I hope she is right, I miss our home in Okhlaoma, but I dream of a better place. A place with clean water, green trees, and a real house.

The wind was strong his morning. Dust was everywhere. I slept on the ground next to my suitcase. It was cold,and I couldn't sleep much. I've been waiting by this road for three days now.

I come from Arkansas. There was no more food, no more crops. Everything was dry and dead. So I left, alone, with just a few things. People said there is work in the orchards in California. I hope they need help.

No one stoppedtoday. Cars pass by, but no one looks. My feet hurt from walking. My stomach is empty. this morning I ate a piece of dry bread. It was all I had.

Still,I try to stay hopeful. Maybe tomorrow someone will stop. I dream of a job, a warm meal, and a real bed.

I sat in front of our old wooden house this morning. My children played quietly, tired, too thin for their age. My husband left to look for work out west, like so many others. We haven’t heard from him in days, but I keep hoping.

Life out here is hard. Every day feels like a fight—with the land, with hunger, with fear. But somehow, we go on. We have to. There’s always a little hope tucked between the cracks of this dry earth.

This morning we packed everything we could carry to continue our route towards to the United States. The morning we left from the capital of Mexico: Mexico City, it is a very beautiful city with large building and very beautiful monuments, to reach the city of Guadelajara.

Just after we left, we stopped at a gas station to get some gas. 

We'd had enough. After years of fighting to get our lives back, the crisis had taken everything from us. So my wife, Luna, and I decided to leave. That morning, we took what we could, leaving behind the family home, our loved ones, and even the old dog. Some chose to stay, to continue hoping... we chose to leave. Heading for California. It was far away, and our tired bodies struggled to keep up. After a few hours of walking, an old hand gave us a lift. Two days later, we finally arrived. But Luna fell ill. With our last pennies, I took her to the hospital. I found a small, cheap house and a job in the textile industry. After so much hardship in Oklahoma, we finally had a roof over our heads, a bit of stability. Maybe that's all true happiness is.

After we arrived in the Washington state with my mother, we were recieved by a kind farmer who accepted to let us sleep in his house. My mother had explained him our situation : we were traveling during days from the Colorado to the North-West. I remember that, at first, I didn't know why. But my mother had told me that the land we were from was becoming dangerous because of the wind and that it was no longer producing enough water. Also, the dishes were becoming more and more dirty, as we didn't have enough water to wash them all, and for farmers like us, it was also an issue in our daily work. "Add that the wind was getting stronger every nights, which almost prevented us to sleep, only to discover some debris in front of our porch in the morning, and this was the perfect recipe to make us leave this place" as my mother use to say to local people. So we left our town before it became too dangerous, which wasn't an easy decision because that included that we had to abandon our farm and our house that we were taking care of after dad passed away. Mom said the journey would take few days, but it actually took a bit more as our car broke. I remember that we had to walk a long time and even spend a night on the edge of the road in a tent before someone helped us finish the journey in his car. This man led us to this farmer at whom we are currently sleeping. To thank him, we decided to help him in the farm, as we used to be farmers ourselves. Mom told me that life would be better here, and she was right : no more sand storm nor drought.

Today was a sunny day, my mom explained me, in the garden, her past during the famous Dust Bowl before 1930s. My mother was a little girl when my grandma took him to Texas, She spent her entire childhood in Texas, where we still live, it was a place where the land was not very cultivable, but my grandmother and locals didn’t know that also. My mom told me that one day there was a long period of drought, and later a sandstorm has arrived, it devastated all the plantations that farmers had cultivated that is to say that all the food has disapeared. So, she said me:

" You know my daugther, food was very important because it allowed us to est but too for earn money !"

I immediatly understood that at that time she was living in the poverty and sadness. But one day, farmers utilized advanced technologyto cultivate the land. Iknow this machines because i lived with and my father work too with, like crop rotation, because he cultivate. Now, I'm going to help my mother to do food for the family.

This year is 1936, I'm traveling back across the parched lands of Oklahoma. The wind stings my face, and dust fills the sky like a never-ending storms. I watch children play with scarps of cloth, their faces smeared with the earth that clings to everything. We left our farm behind, it was dry, cracked and useless. We had no choice.

Everywhere I look, I see people just like us : searching, hoping, struggling. We pass a camp with dozens of tents made from old sheets and canvas. I see a mother holding her child, eyes hollow with hunger, but still filled with love, There is so much hardship, but somehow, we carry on.

Each mile we travel west holds the promise of something better, rain, food , a job , a new start. We don't know what we'll find, but we keep moving. Hope is all we have.

Dalhart, Texas

Another day painting for the rain, which never came. The plantations are suffering from a lack of water and the earth is cracking, the drought is hitting us and are the sandstrorms. It's already been two months since I moved to this farm temporarily to help the farmers. Here is how I'm making a living from my Dust Bowl road trip, this migration help me to find some money.

I think the children are happy here, un Dalhart, Texas. Travel is difficult for them, they don't go to school and they miss their families. Especially their father, who has just enlisted in the American army to defend our country... Matthew and Katy have fun running around, in the fields, but from time to time I teach them how to cultivate si that they can get used to their future work, which I would have liked to be better. Times are hard , conditions are bad for farms, and too many farms are dangerous for our natural resources and our environment.

I want better for my children! And I may have found a solution today. I heard about the CCC, the Civilian Conservation Corps, a program that gives people jobs to help de environment. I would like to be part of it. It could change our lives, we could wake up feeling proud of the tasks accomplished during the day, let's preserve our Earth, let's plant trees to prevent erosion.

My children are the adults if tomorrow, the future will be in their hands. Let's show the younger generation the right way!

Today, on Tuesday, January the eighteen, I came out of my house because I had to go to search some food, and some objects for the house… my family is really poor, so I have to help them everyday.

Today, when I was opened the door to go out, the Dust Bowl was really awe- inspiring, and lots of fear took place in myself.

I was moving forward about some meters and I just turned myself back to look at my house and it was hard to make out it. I saw the danger of beeing lost, so I decided to go just around the house. I found nothing crazy, just a shirt that I put on me, I like it.

Just some meters further, I heard some barking, but I wasn’t sure at this time. So I decided to go to see what is was, and about 5 minutes of search, I saw those beautiful little puppies, without their mother, so I decided to keep them, even if it will be complicated to give them a good life because of the poverty. But I think that if I give them lots of love, it will be fine..

The wind died down just as the sun slipped behind the hills. The dust still clings to everything—my hair, my clothes, the folds of Florence’s dress. I tried to brush it off, but it feels like it's settled into my bones now.

We spent the whole day waiting. Waiting for word about work, waiting for food, waiting for something to change. They say the pea crop froze, so there’s no work here anymore. Another promise blown away like everything else. The little ones barely ate—just some old canned beans we’d saved for a last resort. I gave them what I could and told them stories to keep their minds off the hunger.

The photographer lady came by again. She asked if she could take my picture. I didn’t say much—just nodded. I don’t know why I let her. Maybe I wanted someone, somewhere, to know what it’s like. Not just the dirt and the hunger, but the weight of holding everything together. Of keeping the kids close when there’s nothing but emptiness around us.

I feel like I’m made of dust some days. But I still have to stand. I still have to hold on—for them.

Maybe tomorrow we’ll hear of another camp. Maybe there’ll be work. Maybe the beans will last another day. Maybe I’ll still have hope.

For now, I just close my eyes and pray the wind stays down through the night.

We left before sunrise. The air was thick with dust, and mama wrapped our faces in damp cloth just so we could breathe. My baby sister cried the wole time ,hungry and scared. Papa kept his eyes on the road, jaw clenced like he could hold our world together by sheer will.

Oklahoma gave us nothing but cracked earth and broken dreams. California's supposed to be different. They say there's work there, fruit to pick, fields to tend, food to eat. I don't know if it's true but I have to believe it.

Every mile west feels like shedding skin, like hope in motion. I keep thinking of mama's hands; strong, rough, tired. I just want her to smile again.

When I was young, me and my old brother went in the wood, close to of dad’s farm, when we had freetime. We walk in the wood, until the lake, where we fished with our hands. After that, we enjoyed the lake to swim a little bit before going back at the farm.

When we stayed at the farm, we were bored because we watched my dad working — we were to much young to help him to plow — or we did bored tasks like pick up brambles, sweep, or sow seeds behind dad.

Life was sometimes cool and somtimes enoyed. I still keep good memories about my youth.

My family and I get into the old car. We drive west to California. I am afraid but I hope to find work and food. The sky is gray, but I imagine green fields and a new life. I hold my sister's hand and promise her that we will be safe. Every mile we travel brings us closer to a better home. I pray for rain and happier days ahead.

It is also part of the American Dream: the further we travel, the better our life becomes.

So, in the book cover, we can see in the foreground the Joad family. They are three, the mother on the right, the father in the middle, and the son in the left.

In the middle ground, we also can see many old cars, we can interpret it by thinking that many people are migrating.

Exactly like the Joad family, who is also migrating, but with not car because of the poverty. The fact that they haven’t shoes make sense with the misery.

We can link it with immigration problems of today. Many people die trying to find a better life in another country, in the thirties, like in our time.
