I chose to evaluate my first post the Appeal to Authority which the video of the Proactiv commercial featuring Kendall Jenner.
Define Problem (extraordinary claim):
Proactiv really works!
Gather Information:
This commercial was made by Proactiv. It's an interview with Kendall Jenner, who states her personal experience with the product Proactiv. Kendall states that Proactiv really works, and that it is the only product that she actually saw results from.
Evaluate Evidence:
We all know Kendall Jenner started her career off of the show "Keeping up with the Kardashians", which brought her to her modelling career. She has no scientific background on skincare and her argument for why Proactiv is such a great product is based on her own personal experience. Yes, Proactiv may have worked for her, but that doesn't mean that it will work on everyone's skin types. There is no proof that the product will work on everyone.
Recognize Assumptions, Emotions, Biases:
Jenner is making personal claims with personal anecdote and not evidence for why Proactiv works.
Synthesize Evidence, Identify Alternatives:
Alternative solution 1: Proactiv does work, supported by Kendall Jenner's personal belief and anecdotes of her own personal experience with the products.
Alternative solution 2: Proactiv does not work, supported by multiple studies that follow scientific methods and processes that shows everyone's skin is different and one product cannot work for everyone.
Select Best Alternative:
I believe that Proactiv does not work for everyone.

Definition:
The reason for belief Unexplained is based on the belief that sometimes things happen that cannot be explained.
Connection:
The video below is one example of the belief of the Unexplained which is the Taos Hum. Taos is a small town in New Mexico, some residents and visitors of the small town claimed to have heard s constant low-frequency buzzing noise. The noise became so bothersome for some people they went to the Congress about this noise. But there was never any detection of the Hum or any unusual activities, not many people can explain the Hum.

Definition:
The reason for belief Emotional Connection is when people want to believe something is real, so they perceive certain things to be real.
Connection:
Below is a video clip of the trailer for the movie "Heaven is for Real", the little boy claims he saw what Heaven looked like and people who are in Heaven. This connects with Emotional Connection, because, everyone wants to believe that there is a Heaven. Being told that there is a Heaven and our love ones that have passed on are living in peace with God, will make you believe that there is a Heaven.

Definition:
The reason for belief Patternicity is defined as the natural instinct for human beings to identify meaning with certain patterns, when there is none that exist.
Connection:
Patternicity is shown in this picture because there is a face within the clouds that people believed to be God himself. A pseudoscience watchlist is shown because you must believe in magical properties such as a face in the clouds based on faith.

Definition:
The red flag Suppression by Authorities is often linked to government cover-ups or suppressing information from the public for their own benefit.
Connection:
The article below, talks about the conspiracy of the horrible day which is 9/11. Many people believe that it was a government cover-up, not done by an Islamic extremists. Many people believe, that it was actually bombs that were put on each floor, by the way the Towers fell. This is Suppression by Authority, because we will never really know the truth behind the attacks on the Twin Towers. We were only able to believe, what the government was realesing.

Definition:
The red flag Confirmation Bias is when people naturally look for confirming information or evidence which proves their beliefs while ignoring the information or evidence that goes against their beliefs.
Connection:
Everyone knows the legend of Big Foot. This is a good example of Confirmation Bias because there are many people who have a continuous belief in Big Foot, because of all the constant claimed sightings of Big Foot. Those who believe in him will only look for reasons why he is real, and ignore all the reason or explanations for why he might not exist.

Definition:
The red flag Ancient Wisdom includes any references to ancient beings, ancient practices, and ancient knowledge. Today ancient practices to it is considered wrong to think ancients had more knowledge than modern-day science.
Connection:
The picture below is of the ancient Chinese philosophy which is symbol of the Ying-Yang. The ancient symbol is known for representing everything that is good and bad in the world. For every good thing, there is a bad to accompany it. Now a days, no one really follows the ancient science behind the Ying-Yang.

Definition:
The Appeal to Authority red flag includes a celebrity endorsement. Wether celebrities are qualified or not, their fame propels them into authoritative persona for many fans, and they influence the beliefs of their fans.
Connection:
This video demonstrates the Appeal to Authority red flag because Kendall Jenner, a well-known celebrity, is claiming she uses Proactiv and it works well. Her celebrity name influences the beliefs of her fans. The critical thinking process and skepticism should be applied to the claim that Proactiv really works: does Kendall Jenner really does have acne, how much is she getting paid to make these claims? What are the bias at play with her being a spokespersone?
