One of the thing Juan was known for was taking natives for slaves. Some people estimated that there were just over 300,000 tribes already living in Florida but there were few tribes that there was strict evidence that they were involved. One of those tribes were the Tainos.

After he had succeeded in the settlement of Florida, Ponce de León was later appointed military governor of Puerto Rico (Bimini) and Florida and was allowed to colonize the region.
In the future his discovery of Florida led to more Spanish exploration of the Americas.

It's unclear how many people died but to put it simply, it was life changing. The Spanish introduced the Slave trade into Puerto Rico. When de Leon made another trip to Florida in 1513, he brought with him cattle, oranges and settlers. The cattle and the oranges were new to the Americas and were commonly used after that. One of the biggest disease that they brought over was small pox, killing over 50% of the natives who were in slaved and a large proportion of the Natives who still lived there.

Juan Ponce de Leon did name it Florida due to it being Spain's Easter. In 2018, 22% of Florida were native Spanish speakers and a large proportion speak Spanish as their second language (English being their first).

A lot of dishes that are eaten now were brought to Florida by the Spanish. One of the biggest changes in Florida that was brought by the Spanish was meat such as beef, pork and chicken.

Juan Ponce de Leon was governor of eastern Hispaniola. He was given 200 acres of property as well as slaves from the native Taino tribe. He found wealth as a farmer, but wanted more. He wanted to see if the stories were true about the gold in Puerto Rico but was not given full permission from authorities to go see if if they were. In 1506 he secretly went to to see if the stories were true. This eventually caused him to become governor of Puerto Rico. This possibly (there's no certain evidence it did) lead him to hearing rumours and then looking for the fountain of youth.

This included doing chores for the knight, Don Pedro Nunez de Guzman, hoping that he would learn from Don, how to battle. One of de León's first serious battles was in 1492 under order of King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella. He (and a large army) defeated the Moors which caused the whole Iberian Peninsula under Spanish control. All of this was in preparation for his fighting involved for his conquest.
