         <description><![CDATA[<div>It is a tablet, given oral route, onset of action happens 12 to 18 hours. The distribution is concentrated in thyroid gland, metabolized by liver, and excreted by kidney.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Pre-administration:&nbsp;<br>Contraindicated in pregnancy (Category D)<br>Educate that therapeutic effect can take 1-2 weeks<br><br>Administration:&nbsp;<br>Wear gloves when handling, double gloves if cutting, crushing, or manipulating uncoated tablets<br><br>Post administration/Monitoring:<br>Thyroid function tests should be conducted 2-6 weeks after initiation, 4-6 weeks after dose change, then every 2-3 months once stabilized.&nbsp;<br>Monitor TSH and T4 levels<br>Hypothyroidism can occur, routinely monitor and adjust dosage accordingly<br>Advise patient to report any symptoms of serious adverse reactions<br>- new rash, hematuria, drug fever, dyspnea, etc.&nbsp;<br>Medication should be taken at consistent times each day and with meals<br><br>SJ</div>]]></description>
