Although I was aware that there are schools that cater to these kids' needs, knowing what they learnt everyday gave insight to their needs and problems. 
For instance, we came to know that these students are taught social skills. This hints  to some extent that these kids face difficulty in socializing. 
This helps to create a framework as to what we are supposed to try and resolve/make better while doing the SLP project pertaining to them.
