The movie begins with a shooting and murder that happens in Tre's neighborhood when he is a child. He later moves with his dad. On the first day with his father, someone breaks into their house and Tre's father shoots at him. Later on when the boys are in high school, the "crips" are all hanging out and then the "bloods" come in. Ricky and one blood, the one that passed him back his football when he was a kid, get into a argument just because Ricky bumped into someone. That one blood pulls out a gun and shoots it in the air. Ricky worked hard and even passed the SAT, but his circumstances and environment didn't allow him to succeed.
