There is a lot of gun violence in Boyz n the Hood, which is considered deviant behavior. A majority of society accepts the rules and regulations about gun violence, but the characters in this movie do not. The movie starts off with a black screen and the sound of gun shots, which sets the tone for the whole movie. The movie begins with a shooting and murder that happens in Tre's neighborhood when he is a child. He later moves with his dad. On the first day with his father, someone breaks into their house and Tre's father shoots at him. Later on when the boys are in high school, the "crips" are all hanging out and then the "bloods" come in. Ricky and one blood, the one that passed him back his football when he was a kid, get into a argument just because Ricky bumped into someone. That one blood pulls out a gun and shoots it in the air. And finally, that same guy sees Ricky again on the street and shoots and kills him.

Gang participation is also considered deviant behavior. Most people follow the norms of society and do not involve themselves with gangs. This creates deviants, who want to go against the norms of society. In this film, bloods and crips are rival gangs. In the beginning of the film, the boys were children when they encountered the blood gang that took Ricky's football. One of the members gave the football back. Then, later in high school, Tre encounters the same gang and the same member who gave him his ball back and got into a fight with him.

In today's society, doing drugs and selling drugs are considered as violating the norms. When caught doing either, individuals are arrested and scrutinized by others. In the film, Doughboy is selling drugs to people from the front porch of his house. He has been in and out of juvie and still continues to sell drugs. Then later, Tre visits a neighbor's house. This neighbor is a crack addict, who answers the door with the baby in her arms. With her child in her arms, she's asking Tre if he has any drugs and that she'll do a number of things for drugs, of which even includes giving him a blowjob.

Obviously, murder is a deviant behavior. It is against the law to murder someone. Throughout the movie, several murders occur. The movie starts off with a murder in the black community when Tre was a kid. When the police pull over Tre and Ricky later in the movie when they are in high school, they release the boys because they get a 187 which means a murder happened. Then, Ricky is murdered by the rival gang. Finally, Doughboy and his friends find the rival gang members that killed his brother, and murdered them
