Evidence-based research supports the connection between movement and learning that shows from imaging sources, anatomical studies and clinical data that exercise improves cognitive processing of the brain. Movement and learning have additional benefits for special-needs learners such as autism, ADHD, ADD, dyslexia, behavior challenges, and other neurological disorders (Melillo, 2009) Especially for special needs learners aspects include:
1) Those who may be stuck in a counter-productive mental state, movement is a way to change that status.
2) Movements that involve playing active games helps to activate the brain and stimulate neural networks that will trigger learning.
3) Helps to increase blood flow and amines (mood chemical in the brain) that helps in mood, thinking and recall.
4) Possible calming down for overactive students to improve the state of concentration. (Jensen, 2005)
