The plague originated in the Gobi Desert in Mongolia, Asia early in the fourteenth century. The disease existed for centuries in places of Asia. These regions had small outbreaks, which may have led to the source of the Black Death. The symptoms of the Black Death were high fever, aching limbs, fatigue. Within a few days, lymph nodes would would start to swell and turn black on few body parts. At first, the bumps were the size of a hazelnut, which caused violent shivering fits so bad that some people couldn't stand up. Then the bumps turned the size of a walnut, then close to a goose egg. They were very painful and caused irritation in the body, then the patient would vomit blood. The disease lasted for a few days, usually 3, before the patient died

How did the Black Death spread so quickly?

The Black Death spread rapidly among Europe. The Black Death spread because mongols catapulted dead bodies with the disease over to Europe, causing the spread to happen easily. The mongols sent in ships to Italy holding rats that contained the disease. The disease also could be spread by a simple cough or the touch of another affected person. The two locations farthest from the point of origin were Sicily and Italy.

An annotated image describing how the Black Death affected people in the 14th century.
The Black Death affected people in the 14th century by making the population go down by 50%-60%. The Europeans spread this disease very quickly because it was very contagious, so that’s why nearly all of Europe’s people suffered from the disease. The population was quickly decreasing, getting lower and lower each day. Nearly 19,569 people died a day. This definitely caused a decline in the European population.
