After WW1 germany struggled with poverty, high unemployment, fragile economy and reparation payments were a extra burden
Germany started to print more money which led to a decrease in its value leading to hyperinflation
Economy recovered in 1924 but people lost trust in the weimar government
Stock market crash in 1929 caused germany to be greatly damaged as they depended on loans and investments from the USA
USA recalled loans and deposits from german banks which made germany go more into economic crisis (jobs lost, homelessness, starvation, poverty)
People were upset with government for not doing anything leading to rise in support for communist and nazi party

On 7 march 1936 german troops marched into rhineland but were told to retreat if fired upon (no opposition)
Hitler started building up forces in rhineland in preparation for war

Austrian chancellor was pressured into calling for a referendum (99.75% voted to join with germany)
Germany now became the largest county in the middle of europe with all of austria’s resources (gold & iron ore, army and weapons)

Chamberlain wanted to avoid war so he let hitler occupy parts of sudetenland but in the end the whole of sudetenland was given to him under the munich agreement
Most czech defences were in sudetenland making the czech weak and a easy target for hitler
